Hi all

After a long time lurking on here I finally managed to get myself a 4.2 V8, and after a hairy 2 hour drive in gale force winds and rain yesterday it is warmly tucked up in my garage on a battery conditioner.

I just wanted to say "hi" as I'm sure all my following posts will be asking for help!

The car needs an MOT in a couple of months which should give me an indication of what I need to do, but it definitely needs two front tyres.

I don't like the original 16"' wheels so does anyone have any other wheels for sale? RL7's ideally...

Im keen to swap the wheels before the MOT instead of buying two new tyres to get it through. I also want to upgrade the headlights to the quad lamps and am looking for a child seat, so if anyone has either of these they want to get rid of, please let me know - If not I will go trawling eBay.

Also, what should the gauges read at idle and whilst driving?

Cheers

J

Welcome Mr Toast. Think very hard about the headlight "upgrade". Original will always be the best way to keep things. Cold idle should be 60-70psi, settling to 55-60 or so under load. Hot idle is around 40psi. Water temperature shouldn't exceed 100, usually they will hover around up to 95 and then settle again when the fans come in. If your oil pressure is running a little lower than this, an oil pressure relief spring will resolve it for a small outlay.

Upto 90 in standing traffic, this time of year on motorway 75-80

It was actually within this tolerance so all good!

I understand what you are saying but I really dont like the single headlights and current lamps are only marginally better than candles ....

That's more a function of the wiring loom than the headlamps themselves.

Oh. So an update to the loom would be another option, over a HID setup?

I have a spare set of RL7s in need of a refurb. They're supposed to be my trackday wheels but I haven't used them yet.

When is the next service due? Choose your TVR specialist and take the car to him. He'll tell you much more about your car than any MOT will IMHO.

Congratulations though smile

If you are interested in selling them, please PM me.

It had a 6k service at APM in November and I spoke to Andy at length before buying the car, so I have a pretty good idea of what it is going to need. I just have a sneaky suspicion that the MOT will also throw up a few things. Andy is a bit far away from me, so I think Str8six will be keeping my car alive....

Remember my first journey home The return spring snapped on the throttle
Less than 2 miles into the journey.
Just to let you know if you swap the wheels. Spiders look good but they made out of Swiss cheese.

Thanks, Craig.

I do love the look of spiders, but my 2 years of lurking on here has definitely shown how crappy they are, and the roads around me are pretty shocking so they wouldnt last 2 mins!

I'd love some RL7s....
