Have a chance of picking up an 05 Mondeo estate 2.0tdci zetec at trade money of £750 through work.

Its got a long t n t,the clutch/dmf was done last year,its dead tidy n done 100k.

What else is there to go wrong on these?
Dpf? My annual mileage would be low.

Dont want to take the plunge hastily ascit would mean ditching a much loved alfa gtv but i could do with an estate and it is cheap.

Injectors and fuel pump are each around a grand, both are known to be wonky. To be honest though for that sort of money I'd take a punt on it if it looked clean.

100% this from my experience, a few lads I contracted with ran them as they are pretty sorted motors, but as per any diesel the usual suspects will cause some financial pain if they bite the dust.

Oh, on mine the power steering pump failed at 107k, but it's one of those things, either will or won't.

No DPF on that age Mondeo. EGR might need replacing at some point, I would say its worth £750 all day long, even for parts.

The only guy I could find that would do the injector seals on my 04 tdci fiesta for a reasonable sum told me that if it had been a mondeo he wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole. No idea why though.

I know someone who has taken a similar car from 90000 to 175000 with no injector or fuel pump issues just a turbo and dmf/clutch in 7 years.

Things like fuel pumps and injectors can go on any diesel of this age so at £750 for what is a nice and fairly nippy car I'd go for it if you want it. I've had one and my neighbour is now on his third and the problems he has had has been a turbo going and he's had a couple of turbo to manifold pipes go although his are much lower mileage cars.

That "just" sounds expensive, don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a motor of this type but that surely would not be a cheap outlay?

Egr and injectors/high pressure fuel pump. Worth whipping lid off fuel filter bowl see if there is any metal filings in there. Also, check for smoke when cold and poor idle but for that money you may not be worried.

My friend bought one about 6 months and it nigh on bankrupt him..
The main problem with his was the injectors..
But for that money it's worth taking a gamble.. his had done about 90k before things started to go wrong..

Thanks chaps, figured injectors may be an issue from the number advertised stating injectors had been done.

My Gtv has been faultless since i bought it so i hate to get rid of it but the mondeo will be a dead handy thing.

Took an 06 Ghia in swap last year that i nearly took the plunge on,it drove well but the clutch was dubious.

I'll probably only do 10k over the next few years so u think i'll have a punt on it if it runs ok,at the price it seems a good thing.
