My new (for me) Fiesta ST

Picked this little beauty up yesterday having gone and had a look at it on Tuesday. It's a 2008 model with 18000 miles for 6k, half leather seats and a nice grey dashboard instead of a red or blue one which I kept coming across! No rust, pretty immaculate apart from the bolts that had been put in to hold the centre caps in, I can only assume they kept getting stolen. Been looking for one for ages through dealerships and none really took my fancy until I spotted this on ebay and again on Autotrader.
It's my first 'quick' car having had a 1.2 Corsa before and a 1986 Ford Escort Ghia before that. Not many plans for it, might lower it slightly to close the gap between the wheels and arches, but I am also tempted by a Mountune upgrade...
What do you think then?!

Think old rally car pops and bangs.Yeah, I've heard good things about Milltek systems, so I might have to investigate! Funnily enough a mate of mine thought that it sounded a bit like a rally car when you put your foot down properly and I saw exactly what he meant after that! So I will definitely have a look at Millteks. Lowering first though, that gap is really starting to irritate me...
One of my friends has had a few of these STs. The Milltek non-resonated system is the best of the lot, you don't really get much in the way of pops and bangs with it, although it's better than the standard exhaust in that respect. A straight-through catback is what you need if you want pops and bangs, it will be pretty loud but it will bang like a Chinese firework factory going up in flames every time you let off the throttle at high revs. Other than that, upgrading the induction is worthwhile, there are a lot of myths and misinformation out there about heatsoak, if you're a believer in all that then the placement of the airbox in the ST being right at the front of the engine will please you. The K&N 57i is a decent, cheap kit and goes right behind the grill for plenty of cold air.
Other than that, don't blow too much money on the suspension and handling side of things, because it will never be a surgically precise little car.

im growing to like these st's. never really knew anything about them until my mate got one. it seems a complete car although mpg isnt magical with a lead right foot, as for modding you'd be best of to get the 185 mountune kit i think its about £1400 that is a CAI, Full miltek exhaust and a remap

Nice car mate, I have blue one, been through all three mountune stages, 165, 185 and now on 200. The 185 also includes the cams, give it some nice pops and bangs is £1850. 165 is a great all round package bit cheaper at £1400. If on budget, eibach springs lower it 25mm, looks very nice. You can also change the filter to a K&N kit and get a larger bore flexi pipe. The breathing system as standard is very restrictive and these two changes give noticeable gains in both torque and bhp at a budget.
I noticed the lack of MPG as well James! Even standard it makes a nice noise, I think anyway. Looking to squeeze a few more ponies but don't want to spend silly money or make it undriveable day to day. Was thinking Milltek flexi pipe, k&n air filter (or induction kit?) and a remap. Hopefully raise MPG slightly too, although I'm not too fussed about that. Eibach springs are on my mind too...

Mountune have now discontinued the MR200 now. However if you contact Doug at mountune he will register your interest and if and when enough people are interested they will look at making another batch of inlets for the 200.
From standard to 200 is £3000 excluding fitting.
Without doubt go for their 165 upgrade, cracking bit of kit.

Very nice. I had one just like it (see below) - 2008 58 model, moondust silver no stripes, rear privacy glass, but with blue dash and absolutely loved it. Was also my fist quickish car and thought it was great fun to drive.
I owned up to 50,000 miles and sold it last September. Faultless 3 years of ownership.
Kept mine completely standard although I was tempted by the Mountune upgrades but never got round to it. Always felt it would benefit from just a bit more power, but given yours is out of warranty there's cheaper alternatives which would give you better results. Agree with lowering them too, from some angles they look like they're on stilts!
MPG wise I was pleasantly surprised, getting 37-40mpg on the commute and never seeing much lower than 31 when giving it a hard time.
