This is really weird

Being a dutiful son I was visiting my dear old mum on Friday. She lives in a purpose built 2 storey assisted living apartment complex. I parked the Box S 981 in the ample car park at the front, tucked in a corner with a hedge on one side to try and prevent as much as possible the car park dings and scratches, and with the bonnet facing outwards about 25 yards from the (busy) main door. This was about 4.15 p.m. When I returned at 6-ish I noticed that my front number plate was missing. At a complete loss as to how that might have happened I got down to examine the back plate. Not a mark or a scratch or a dent to indicate how it could have come off, no fixing screws left in the back plate…. even more confused. When I stood up I noticed the number plate placed on the top of the bonnet….with the screws placed carefully on top of it complete with plastic washers and the plastic decorative caps carefully replaced on the screw heads. Meticulous vandalism, lunatic fringe or aborted theft??? Whoever did it carries a flat blade of some sort and a screwdriver around with them. Any ideas what’s going on?

Somebody trying to steal the plates and scared off by a good Samaritan who then put all the bits on your car for you.

Could it be a cranky resident making a subtle complaint about your car? Too noisy, etc, etc? Any CCTV around?

Does sound like a thief nicking the plates was disturbed though
