Car Checks

Im looking for a car check but not sure what to make of them really. This is my first time buying a used car privately.

There is a check (like a text check) for 3quid or an AA one that is 20quid!

I did a quick search on here (posts from 2009) and its noted that the cheap ones dont show certain things like finance outstanding...

Can anyone recommend the cheapest check that will show everything.

Depends on the value of the intended purchase. I always used RAC car check which is £15.99. Gives all info, I think from the hpi database, and gives £5k insurance if anything turns out to be wrong with the info. HPi on the other hand gives all the info but gives £10k worth on insurance but the cost of the check is circa £20.

No doubt there are others but steer clear of the cheapo text jobs.

Car im going to see this week is up for 2.5k - im quite sure it wont have finance on it but i just wanted to double check everything, write off, insurance, finance etc.

Im just a bit unsure which one to pick. never used any of them before so just after some advise really.

What kind of info should i be looking for except for those stated above?

do it properly, or risk buying a cat C repair that's still on long term finance being sold by some dodgy character.
