I'm 'only' 38 and have hankerings for a V40, I like the shape and smallish estate proportions and am seriously considering looking at one to replace my R53 Cooper S works.
What are they like in terms of drive, reliability, comfort etc?
What are the engines and specs of choice on them? I'm not overly fussed on economy and would certainly trade that off for a bit of oomph but at the same time I have a 400+ bhp TVR for thrills.

I had been hoping someone would have answered this. My wife is considering one of these. They seem well made and the seats are perfect for her bad back, but what do long term owners think?

my dad's had one from new (1.8 gdi) for about 10 years. Its very nice inside, a little claustrophobic\snug, but I fit in absolutely fine (6'2). Back seats aren't massive, neither is the boot, but both on par with similar small/posh estates. Very pleasant to drive, instruments very clear - doesn't really encourage sporty driving. I think the T4 engine is 200bhp 2l turbo - so lots of go available, if thats what you wanted

My younger Brother (34) has one as a stopgap car. 51 plate 2.0T in insipid yellow. 1 previous owner, old man who passed away - there is a dealer near Newbury who seems to get a lot of this type of car. It is a very good car, especially since he paid £1,000 with a year's MOT thrown in. Not that fast, but plenty of get up and go for a daily drive. Nice velour interior and heated seats etc. (I love velour interiors).

I assume he is talking about the new one, not the old ones.

My OH is close to ordering one too.

What I have read is that the Chassis is a hoot! Given the looks and practicality it is worth a look especially with the Turbo Petrols.

Rebel blue is the only colour to have, looks stunning on the R-design models.

Drove one with the lowest-spec diesel engine around Millbrook. Felt really nice, probably the most enjoyable of the many cars I drove that day.

My brother in law has one in the blue colour posted, 13 plate D4 R-Line and I really like it, interior is modern and I love the digital dash, but he has had / is having a few quality issues.

The rear door wont open and rear door card needs to be ripped off and replaced along with the door mechanism
Paint issue on the side of the rear bumper, they are fitted too tight and with the movement as you drive around the paint ripples and peels off - bumper off and re-spray, both known issues but both covered under warranty.
