I'm looking at a car in the Netherlands.

I'm about to start doing the due diligence on the car itself, but I am keen to understand the difference between "Price" and the "Export Price" as set out in the ad.

The difference in the price is 5.6%. I.e the "export price" is 5.6% cheaper than the price they advertise otherwise.

Could someone explain what this is and how it applies to someone like me who would want to bring the car to the UK?

Thanks!

Does this mean if I buy it (as a UK citizen) and export it to the UK to use it, I pay the lower price?

Any ideas on process, etc?

How can you check that VAT has been paid on an EU car btw?

Need to see the original invoice - which will be an official VAT invoice.

If I remember it right I think you've got the choice of buying a car from any EU state without any taxes and pay the UK taxes when you import it.Or you can opt to pay the VAT locally depending on wether it's advantageous compared to here.Which usually meant buy a car from a dealer based somewhere like Luxembourg and pay the VAT locally not here.

Which is what caused all the aggravation and court cases years ago concerning UK dealers not wanting to recognise warranties on EU bought and imported cars and the UK VAT authorities losing in the European courts concerning the issue of not wanting to recognise VAT being paid in the most advantageous EU state. No surprise the UK government and big business are selectively all for the EU when it suits but not when it doesn't.

If it's got EU plates, VAT's been paid. That simple.
