Here are four of my dream cars from the 60s. They may be outclassed in terms of performance and handling by todays standards even by a 25 grand hot hatch but they have style and class, which is hard to come by these days.

Unfortunately, they are all very expensive classics now and not really realistic daily propositions. I know you can get `modern`bespoke versions of the E-Type and Interceptor but they`re very expensive.

In an age of turbocharged performance cars with paddle-shift transmissions, what are the modern equivalents of these 4 iconic cars. Are there any. Lets classify `modern`as less than 20 years old.

The obvious answer would be this:

or this:

but I`m not so sure.

The only 3 that I can think of that come close are these:

Any suggestions, because a modern day and relatively affordable version of one of these cars wouls pretty much be my ideal car!

(Sorry, my question mark key isn`t working for some reason).

I also love the GT style, long bonnet, cabin near the back. It's a style that's always (in my eyes) looked 'just right'. Whenever I see a car like this it always conjures up images of blasting down the péage to the south of France, or through the mountain passes.

I scratched the 'modern equivalent' itch with a Z4 Coupe & I absolutely love it. There are more expensive Coupes like the Jag, which I'd have in a heartbeat if I could afford one. But on a reasonable budget (£10k - £13k) then for me it's the Z4. The coupe has the added bonus that's it's quite rare as they were only made for 3 years (approx 2000 imported into the UK Vs approx 21500 convertibles).

Ok, so these are German, but they do fit the classic GT shape of long nose, cabin just in front of the rear axle style.

Let's break it down.

The Aston is a 4 seat luxury GT coupe. I'd say a Maserati GranTurismo is the closest modern equivalent to that.

The Dino was a two seat sports car designed for people who couldn't necessarily afford a real Ferrari... How about the new Alfa 4C.

The E Type. Easy, either the XK or the F-Type.

The Jenson is a tough one. Sports GT, roomy, big V8... Merc C63 AMG wagon maybe?

Yes, I see some commonality in the silhouettes but a bit brash and in yer face compared to the elegance of the classics.

But wouldn't an E Type have been considered a bit in yer face compared to normal cars of the day. I'd say its all relative with boring shopping cars these days having big wheels and sparkly DRLs and the like.

I live just up the road from Gaydon and see these about quite a lot. Pictures don't do them justice, they are beautiful. Had a few give it the beans after seeing me pointing and talking to the Mrs and they sound amazing.

Just waiting on the depreciation cliff working in my favour.

Here you go:

Good call on the 350Z and Z3/Z4 coupes, OP. All cars that I've looked at myself at some point.
