ADAC cover for TVR's
Discussion
Does anybody have ADAC breakdown cover for their TVR? I'm looking at buying the ADAC PLUS (joint) cover.
I want to get breakdown cover for the TVR in Europe. Single trip policies are more expensive than this annual policy that covers both my wife and myself (I think!!).
I'm hoping that this policy can replace both my UK based TVR cover and my wife's AA cover for her car in just the one single policy.
Does anybody know the following?
Is this a breakdown and recovery policy for UK and FR (as well as EU although not important). Will the car be repatriated back to the UK if it breaks down in France?
I beleive it covers the person in any car rather than a specified car therefore covers both myself and Sam in whatever car we are in?
Is there an maximum age limit on the car? (Some have max 10 or 15 years)
Does it include Homestart?
I'm sure someone will be along with a definitive but in the meantime... I have asked a similar question on PH recently, as I have a 20 year old car that has value to me beyond it's 'book' value - the consensus is that ADAC is much better in respect of repatriation, will not stipulate a max age of vehicle, but might apply value vs. cost rules if repatriation is the only option in the event of a breakdown. One poster on my original thread said that they had managed to get a knackered but very low value car bought back, but as ADAC don't publish their 'small print' in English, what you need is a fluent German speaker to call them.... will be interested to see what answers you get!
I've been an ADAC Plus member since 2007. They are excellent.
There cover is for the person so not any specified car.
I think I pay 70,50 euro per year for full Europe cover.
First Tuscan recovery was 14 days after joining :0
Shipped her from northern Germany to Str8six.
Second time with the same Tuscan in 2009 after an accident. Hannover to Cheshire.
Last time, my current Tuscan, Toulouse to Cheshire.
Please see next post......

Each time they gave me an ADAC rental and kept me updated on the recovery progress.
In Toulouse they told me to stick with my slow 4 day return drive to Calais schedule.
There was another rental waiting in Dover for us.
The French recovery guy was very happy when I told him ADAC.
The AA is used to support in the UK.
I can not praise them enough. Simply excellent.

On the strength of Tony's/so called recommendation, I too am now with ADAC.
Very easy to join.
Accept UK credit card payment.
Europe wide cover for Eu 79.5 (I think)...One good thing about EEC membership, I suppose! I believe in the UK they sub-contract to AA
Telephone call very straightforward - easy switch to English speaking girl.....And she sounded gorgeous - I was sold at that point!!!
Had to make the switch from Green Flag (free through my bank a/c) as they wont cover vehicles >10 years old.
I believe ADAC operate more as a friendly society rather than a shareholder corporation...which AA and RAC have become.

What's the difference between the ADAC Plus and the normal ADAC?
I am sure that ADAC Plus covers all Europe and ADAC only covers domestic Germany.Just to add to my high regard for them.
I couldn't get into my First Tuscan at Hannover Airport back in 2007.
I had dropped my AA membership and so called the ADAC for help. I told them about my ADAC position but they just said "No problem".
The ADAC guy came out, sorted me out and refused any payment and asked why I didn't join them.
I think that the first year payment was €83,- for full Euro cover and so I joined there and then.
Two weeks later my Tuscans newly rebuilt engine threw a shim. I didn't know it was 'only a shim' and the ADAC man simply asked me which address in the UK I would like it delivering to.
You can imagine how grateful I was. Two weeks later in was in the safe arms of Jason at Str8Six.
Just wanted to add something I found out today.
I travel to the US very regularly and try to use the same hotels in the different cities I visit.
Today, in Philadelphia I was chatting to Angel, one of the check in girls.
While chatting, a Lady came in to check in.
Angel went through the process and asked if she was in AAA to which she said no.
I jokingly offered her my ADAC card and she was given about 15% discount.
Angel then proceeded to change my rate.
I visit this hotel at least 20 times a year. Its going to save me a fortune.

My wife's German friend is visiting us tomorrow so I'll be getting her to complete my online application for me.
Karl, you really don't need to apply on-line or use the services of a German-speaker.
I phoned them up last year/December, as soon as I asked my first question in English, the girl switched seamlessly to English. I was then passed to the membership department, where I gave my address and other details and had the documents by post by the New Year.
I would say that all the documentation you receive is in German....you may need this translating.
"jimmyzz" on here is also a member and is full of praise for them too. - As a native German, I guess he should be though!!

Just found this on another forum:
This was posted on another forum, and is rather worrying for those who have joined ADAC for cheap British and European cover:
I joined ADAC two and bit years ago, mainly because of the positive comments by others on this and other forums. I took the "Partner Plus" package as it covered my wife and I any where in Europe including the UK.
In 2011 whilst on the way to Dover I had a puncture on the caravan, I called Munich and they sent out the AA to asist me. In November I had a puncture on my car, I called Munich again, they sent the AA to asist. I called them again in January this year for a sticking accelarator. Again the AA assisted.
I renewed my membership in January 2012 for the second year.
At the end of 2012 I had letters from them inviting me to renew my membership for 2013. I paid by credit card on 31 Jan 2013.
Two weeks later I had a letter from them telling me that the package that I had paid for was being downgraded because of these three events, all in the UK. The downgraded package would only cover me for Germany, not the UK or any other country except Germany. I wrote to them saying this was unacceptable and asked for them to cancel the plan and refund my 98.20 euros.
They offered to refund 33.75 euros, the difference between the two packages and told me I would be a member on the lower version until 31 Jan 2014.
A very underhand way of dealing with members. Of course I have now joined Red Pennant for my European trip in August.
Not sure how true it is but thought I'd post it as a bit of negative balance and info.
I normally go with Euro breakdown cover with Mannings which is about £55 I don't know how good it is as I've never used it.

One of the participants of the "TVR Tour of Spain" in 2011 needed to use that company. All went very smoothly.
