Mission m33i speakers with my tv?
Discussion
Currently got a 50" Sony LCD TV and was wanting to upgrade the sound a little...
I tried a Yamaha yas101 but wasn't hugely impressed with it although it was certainly a good improvement
Years ago I hard a tv hooked up to an amp and floor standing speakers.....it sounded superb from what I can recall!
I'm not really interested in surround sound but have seen a nice pair of mission m33i at Richer Sounds at £150...
I was thinking of adding a stero amp or an av amp .... Only looking at the cheaper stuff at richer sounds say an amp for £sub 150
I'm a total numpty to these things so would welcome your advice
I am looking for a nice punchy sounds to listen to music (from tv) and movies

I'd suggest an AV receiver rather than a conventional 2 channel hi-fi amp; the receiver will have digital inputs that a 2 channel hi-fi isn't likely to for the budget.
Is second hand an option ? There's should be plenty of choice on Gumtree or e-bay.

You'll probably be looking to plug the optical digital output from your TV into an amp (using a 'TOSlink cable, don't worry, they're very cheap) so, as said above, an AV receiver is a good bet. A Sony '540 would do the job cheaply:

There are more complicated ways of doing what you want, including using the Audio Return Channel (ARC) from your TV (this would let you control the volume from your TV's remote) and routing sound directly from your BluRay player/Sky box/Console or whatever directly into the AV reciever but the Sony will support all of that if you decide you want to expand or improve the system in the future. The '540 also supports surround sound if you decide you want to try that out. The main limitation with the '540 is that it has no networking features, so streaming music from the internet or an iPod or whatever is not built in.

Do it! You'll not regret it.
I done it last year and connected the Samsung TV to the Marantz Amp with B&W 686 Speakers.
Great sound compared to the TV only sound.
Loads of reviews online for the Amp and Speakers.
You should be able to get a demo of how the Amp and Speakers sound with a TV. If the Hi-Fi shop can't do it maybe go somewhere else.
You might want to do a search on here for cabling and Bi Wired setup. Compared to Amp and Speakers the cabling and Bi Wired debate would drive you insane!

Connected (via RCA) my Sky box and PS3 to my £150 Cambridge Audio 640a v2 amp and a £99 pair of Wharfdale Diamond 9.1 (I think) and I'm delighted at the results.
I also have a CD player connected and I think my solution probably delivers better musically than a AV amp at this price point.
