I have noticed a strange noise. The best way I can describe it is as a 'spinning' sound. It's a gentle whooshing/hissing noise that stops completely when I press the clutch pedal but comes back again when I release it. It is most noticeable at lower speeds but that could be due to lower road/wind noise

My dealer said it was just a transmission noise but I honestly cant remember ever hearing anything like it in any other car I've driven. I wondered if it could be a loose belt of some kind or something rubbing against a moving part. The car is a MINI Cooper D with about 45,000 miles on it. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Change in noise with the clutch depressed/released usually points to it being a clutch release bearing or the internal gearbox bearings being worn. At 45k miles it's probably a noisy release bearing, I wouldn't worry about it unless it's unbearably loud.

Ok thanks. Is it something that is likely to need attention? The car is under warranty until next September so I could just keep an eye on it I suppose?
