Just had the wife's C250 Coupe W204 in for a B1 service car is a Sept 2011 & covered 21k. Garage phoned her to say rear pads & disks needed to be replaced at a cost of some 400 + VAT on top of the £460 basic service cost so nearly 1k! So the question is, should the pads & disks need changing at 21k miles... is this normal?
Any others experienced this or were the garage out to fleece her?

Sounds suspect - I thought these cars all had brake wear indicators, my 2011 C220 cdi did - a message comes up on dash when pads are nearing the limit.

When I had my C-Class they tried to get me to change saying they were 60% worn, therefore might need changing before the next service, to which I replied that I'm quite confident at driving to the dealership to get them changed inbetween services.

Seems like they are using the fact they have the car as an opportunity to drum up some work to pay for the coffee and shiny showroom!

Sounds too low a mileage for rear disks to be replaced, and I'd be a bit disappointed if my pads had that short a life too.

I've had 4 Mercs in recent years, done between 20k and 40k miles in each of them, but I've never had to replace pads or discs on the rear of any of them, only ever fronts.

Sounds too low, my C350 estate (W204) had rear brake pads and discs changed at 60k miles, and front have 85 percent wear at 75k miles.

I ran into the same prob last oct when i had my B service done on my 2009 c250 cdi saloon. They wanted 400 to renew front pads and discs. The milage is 35600. I asked them if i had it done at an independant would my extended warranty be intact. They said as long as the job did not affect anything else in the future with the braking systen the cover would be ok. I went to a local WEll Esteemed garage and they quoted 166 fitted using same parts. But on inspection they said the pads and discs had at least 12 mths left in them. I have left them on and will only use mb for yearly service and breakdowns. Bonney
