991 GT3s catching fire?

Just seen a post on facebook from a well known independent stating that 'Apparently 5 991 GT3's have caught fire'

Anyone know anymore about this?

Never happened with the Mezger.

Now we've got that out the way, I wonder if it's true and what the cause is?

I know what Porsche will say though.
Sorry sir I'm afraid your warranty doesn't cover fire damage. I mean c'mon, you've had the car for 3 weeks. Nothing lasts forever.

Perhaps it's Porsche's marketing tie-in with the latest Hunger Games movie

Unfortunately the percentage of 991s spec'd with a fire extinguisher is probably the lowest of any gen GT3.

The Swiss fire I believe triggered the investigation. This has only affected cars built in the 2014 production weeks. Its obviously not great press but a batch of faulty bolts isnt a epidemic.

Indeed he couldn't know for sure, but with the specs of a quarter of the cars coming into the country being on the PH stitching/heated seats thread, there may be some credence in extrapolation

I'm hearing rumours that Porsche have confirmed that all 991 GT3s will have to have replacement engines. Any owners heard anything?

Yes I've heard this. They're fitting a cummins diesel, and with a manual 12 speed gearbox.
Otther than for those with red stiching on the leather, you have a good old Coventry climax from the imp with a four speed box to contend with .

So maybe maxing at 9k was a step too far.

Weren't there rumours that this was the reason for the delivery delay ?

Of course, they could always fit the Mezger 4 litre --- or maybe the couldn't !!
