Time has come to change the rear disc and pads on my E60 M5 and there seem to be some really cheap quotes on maindealerdiscount.com - £481 from Sandal Wakefield, £533 from Listers Boston all in.

Only problem is that all those places are really far away and calling the stealers here in London I'm getting quotes of over £800! They don't seem to want to match or know about the website.

So what should I do? Is there anything to do in Boston? smile Another option is to buy the OEM parts of ebay for £435 and pay for the labour at a London stealer which works out as £690.

Try an Independant specialist? Like Munich Legends?

it's just pads/discs nothing too unique and won't affect your service history taking it elsewhere....

I have a Mondial warranty though, otherwise I would have just bought the OEM part and paid an indy for the labour.

Mondial Warranty is still perfectly valid if you have used OEM parts at a VAT registered garage. Call them if you want to confirm but the terms were changed a couple of years ago to meet EU regulations.

I used main dealer discount for the front discs and pads on my E60 M5 and went to Listers in Boston. I booked two days before and got them for 50% of the price i'd have paid down in my neck of the woods (Bath). I managed to conicide it with a trip to see the parents as they were only 35 miles from Listers. Listers were great, it was a Saturday morning and i was in and out in 2 hours-epic service and a great job.

When i was looking, lots of deals in London were doing the deals-mainly Stephen James etc. However, speak to any other BMW dealer and none of them want to price match those deals hence me taking the offer via main dealer discount.

Ps-there are some great driving roads up towards Boston!! An early morning blast and no traffic along with great sight lines allowed 'rapid progress' to be made!

Thanks for the info on Listers, will check out Google maps to see what the roads are like and might make a trip of it! Don't know anyone who lives around there though, what were you doing for the 2 hours they were changing the brakes?

Stephen James are doing deals on pretty much everything apart from the brakes, not sure why...

I'm pretty sure Stephen James (Enfield) were doing rear disc's and pads for <£500 on the main dealer discount site about 2 weeks ago. It might be worth ringing the site to see if the offer is due back, or maybe even contacting Stephen James direct to see if they are willing to do it at the old price.

Not helpful for OP but I came across the site via PH and it's great! Had my M3 serviced at Bonhams in Wolverhampton last week and service was the best I've had after visiting a few BMW dealerships over the years.

I didn't try the more local dealers, thought they would have said no and it was also an excuse to actually put some miles on it since I tend to use it only on my week off

Are you sure?

I thought s this was an insured used warranty it was exempt from the EU block ruling and they could therefore specify whatever they want (i.e. Main Dealer Service).

+1

Mine states that it has to be services by a BMW Authorised Dealer or BMW Authorised Service Centre.

I think 99% of all BMW Authorised Service Centres in the UK are BMW dealers too. One of the exceptions is Harwoods in Basingstoke, but they're still BMW dealer prices and don't seem to use MDD.

Well my understanding is that Mondial/BMW will let you take out a warranty on a car which has been serviced at an indy using genuine parts but once you have the warranty in place, you can only go to the dealers.

I called maindealerdiscount and they said the dealers choose whether to do discounts on a weekly basis so I think I'm going to wait and see if Stephen James crops up again. The computer says there's still 5k miles to go, but I think that's just for the pads as the discs look like they need replacing.

Vines in Redhill, Surrey (RH1) participate in the MDD scheme which is approx 25miles from Central London. The dealer is stuated on the A23 which serves as a direct link into the city or an easy connection to the M25.

For the doubters, Babw is absolutely correct.
You CAN use an Independent, just so long as they use legit BMW Parts.
Just telephone Mondial if you are in doubt, they will confirm it.
