Radiomobile rebuild to modern specification

Those of us who remember thre pride of first owning a car radio with an astounding output of 5W will appreciate where I am coming from. I have the eponymous 1085 five push-button in the car and want to have it rebuilt to modern spec. Before you rush to mention Tadpole radios, I was lucky to be sitting down when I looked at their site and their charges. Over £400 including a positive earth inverter! Then of course one needs new speakers to cope and so on. so, do any of you know where it can be converted to FM (and/or DAB even) at a more affordable cost? I shall, of course, be retaining the original radio chassis number, before you ask

I had my lovely fifties HMV restored, converted to FM, iPod enabled and converted to negative earth by the Vintage Wireless Company. The cost was about £400. I looked at all the cheaper alternatives and they were all ste for one reason or another. Mainly because they made the existing buttons redundant, so the volume was increased by pressing the first push button, and nonsense like that. Before that I tried one of those retro looking modern units but the reception was hopeless. The cheapest option is to hide a modern unit in the glovebox, but the only truly satisfactory option I could find was to take a deep breath and pay up.
