12 String Guitars?

GAS has struck again, and I find myself on the hunt for a 12-string. Incentive is that my mate Ben Travers has said that I can play a bit of background fill stuff for his new album if I get something decent sounding.

Budget is in the 1500 - 2000 quid range, and I was thinking of something like a Taylor T5 maybe?

Any recommendations gratefully received, I'm going to pop over to World Guitars tomorrow afternoon, but I don't think Jeff has any 12 strings in stock at the moment.

I love my Guild GAD 12 string, so maybe look at the USA made version if you have the budget. Do you need a pickup in it too?

One of the best 12 strings I have ever played was a Eko Luthier 12 String genuinely an Eko guitar made by hand with all solid woods and quite glorious in appearance and in its sound. 7 second ring from each strum. Just wonderful. However in 50 years I have only seen one such Eko guitar. Certainly worth looking for a Robbie Armstrong or C F Martin guitar if you can find one. Nice problem to have and I do wish you well! There ain't no other howl like a 12 string!

Well that was easy! I visited World Guitars this afternoon, they had a Taylor 354ce in stock, bang on the budget, it sounds and plays great so the deal was done.

Mrs Gaspode loves it too, which meant that I didn't have to reveal the cost
