Following on from the oil pressure thread ( great by the way)
So if your oil pressure in left handers especially tight ones at the bottom of a fast hill gets dangerously low and assuming the oil warning light is activated ? ? ? ! What is the oil pressure at that time,,,,,, could be zero but at what oil pressure is the light activated.
Is it about 7 psi?
I'm also assuming under race type conditions, oil hot, hence thin, engine hot and so forth
That light being activated,
Is that oil pressure going to be to low for the engine in those extreme circumstances?

'I used to be I indecisive you know'

Basically if the light doesn't come on is the engine likely to be getting the right amount of oil pressure.
The gauge can go very low but is the light the thing to look out for and worry then !!!!

I know the answer really we've got to keep the pressure high!

Baffled sumps + oil/water coolers + peters gauge will be a great test bed for the evidence over a lap of differing G's and revs.

I probably asked 23,00 questions then
WHAT'S THE OIL PRESSURE WHEN THE LIGHT GOES ON please.
Thanks a very lonely man. Oh its fun writing!

I never really suffered from the oil warning light coming on in extreme conditions on my 4.6 John Eales powered offroader, it was really more of a trouser drying problem.

Did you run a baffled sump in that !

My worry is Alun, pressure drops to about 10 psi after heavy braking, mid corner but enough pressure to keep the light out. You then floor it at the time the pressure is low and then it takes a few seconds for the pump and oil to play catch up while the maximum strain caused by full throttle goes through the system!

No baffled sump, still no problems. You guys worry far too much.

Although you wont be getting anywhere near the G force that we get on track I suppose.

It will be very interesting to see what your oil temp is at those moments Peter.
Man that's a jump, man that's a st landing!
So it obviously works when in mid air then! Respect respect respect to you, how's your back
What does seem odd is the Morgan boys have very few issues so maybe we do worry too much.

Apparently, Mulfab sell a lot of baffled sumps to the Morgan boys, they're their main customers.

Exactly. But then I thought if their racing there going to be refreshing the engine more often than we'd like.
They do hammer round and have at least 20 min races so if its good enough for them.

For me I have to be sensible and be nice to the car.

Yeah right! Maybe I should stick to road tyres and slower the transitions down!

I'm reminded of a series of corners at Marham, mega grip and the thrill of flicking left/ right/left/right/left then down hill and left at 100mph onto the runway! I was pressed against the door let alone the oil.
Shudder to think, I loved it but the engine, my poor baby!
Well we'll find out with your test bed. Thanks in advance mate.

I think I may have exceeded it several times, try barrell rolling at 90 mph end over end. Still no problem just hit the kill switch, same engine went on for ages.

Henry Catchpole editor of EVO Mag had to rebuild his Griff 500 engine after very fast laps on the twisty West Circuit. Would not admit his sump was un-baffled. I suspect it was not baffled. Probably did not know, anyway.

My old 4.6 did about 30+ TDs, saw the oil pressure gauge read zero on many occasions, had the hydraulic lifters bleed down so it sounded like a bag of nails and I often stayed out on track for 40 minutes when I was having a real good time.

I stripped that engine and checked the bearings before Derek took it and they were all fine!

With this 5.5 though, I am far more worried about consequences hence I will fit a baffled sump!

Peter your right.
I could have gone on a job but bottled it! Can't take the heights anymore!
Hold on in between tea breaks and after I've posted carbage I was sinking into the ground yesterday repairing 40 meters of 6ft fence that's swaying about like a Sail. Walked the dog 3 miles.
I've got a list of jobs backing up!
This sites great for a bloke only just used to writing?!!!??

Im going to write a book, a story about a small boy that gets the taste of petrol and Castol R in his blood, usual sob sob Story of greatness being denied, then the joy of finding I'm not the only one.
Long live Pistonheads.
