Years ago I remember seeing a programme on TV about Rolls Royce and how they had a machine which tested the durability of the carpets! Also the demister had to clear the windscreen within a set time in most extreme conditions. It was fascinating to see the lengths that they went to. According to the airport limo drivers that used to ferry execs from my company to Heathrow the original Lexus LS400s had a good reputation.

Surely recalls are a part of the quality control process. It's manufacturers that have widespread problems but not recalls who have really poor quality control.

The last 2 Technic models I have opened had at least 1 piece missing.

They send the replacements out quickly, so customer service is good but I wouldn't class their QC as impeccable.

That's pretty standard testing for any car company.

The difference is that they admit there is a problem and do there best to rectify it. Some other manufacturers just ignore and deny.

No, shoddy fit and finish with a veneer of 'class' (if you can call it that) is their calling card these days.

Lexus and Honda products are always impeccably finished, but then the Japanese are the world's finest craftsmen so that is to be expected, I suppose.
