camera safety team duty of care ??

whilst nipping out from the garage this morning i passed a camera van parked up on a 30mph limit and this morning is bin day so there were empty bins lined up on the pavement , one was in the middle of the road with cars swerving to avoid it . literally 3 mins later i came back the same way to see half a dozen bins in the road so pulled up about 50 yards in front of the camera van on the wrong side of the road facing traffic as there was no verge on the n/s . im in my vivaro decaled like a breakdown van with hi viz reflective stuff on it and my hi viz jacket .

dragged the bins back off the road and layed them down on the little frontage road that runs alongside the carriageway . a elderly resident comes out for a quick chat and i have a cig and chat for a few mins .

im then greeted by a couple of pcso,s in a little van asking why im obstructing the camera van ???

the conversation didnt go well after that and about 20 mins later i had a visit from the local community bobby.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/12.gif

advice was given as the BiB call it but i think large wheelie bins rolling around in the road constitute a road safety risk

Id complain.
A safety van sat there snapping photos whilst cars have to avoid wheelie bins in the carriage way would indicate the camera operators need retraining.

The camera operator is probably not trained or insured to recover wheelie bins or some bollx like that. Rather sit there coining it in taking advantage of motorist focusing on the bins and not him.

I'd have used a real camera, showing the van obstructing the pavement and the bins in the road and sent it to local paper. Someone then might have had "words of advice" to the camera crew .
But the orrifacer was right- you committed the worst crime in UK today- you stopped a branch of HMG collect some taxes.

But ,hey, was there an accident whilst the van was filming /. NO- van did it's job then.

The most risky overtaking move I've seen was a camera van atempting (then failing) to pass a bus. I noted reg and wrote in, and got a reply saying that van was elsewhere that day. Lying scumbags.

Wasn't there someone on here that used to make a point of parking behind these vans and then getting out, put some high-viz on and stretch his legs or stand on the overbridge to admire the view?

Does it look like bin day? Were the bins left in the road, blown into the road or used as a screen?

Words of advice given, when the main drag was all-but blocked by wheelie bins and the poor safety camera drones couldn't enforce??!? I'd be telling him to escalate it before he'd finished ; a shame to read this, as the main road through my village was blocked due to a single vehicle accident/gas leak incident on Monday night, and the local PCSO could not have been more friendly or more insightful with regard to the one-a-week-plus accident rate on the main drag...

Make a complaint.
If these were in full view of the camera operators then I don't see why they couldn't have moved the bins or called the Police to do it if they were too frightened to do it themselves.

A lot of scamera van operators are Old Bill on overtime/extra time.

And I don't understand the concept of obstructing the camera van? If it is legal to park on the road in front of the camera van (ie no restrictions) to visit a house or pick up blown over bins then where is the offence? I would make a formal complaint and ask for confirmation that all those involved are disciplined or retrained.

It's almost as if the revenue camera operators were not bothered about safety and the risk posed by the bins, but were more interested in their ability to take money off people for quite safely exceeding a probably too low speed limit.
