Hello

Searching for my first C2S! How important is it that the car has sport chrono pack? I want to buy a car that will not be hard to sell on in a few years time, I don't think I'm that fussed for my pleasure. Lots of cars for sale don't have it but a few people have said its a 'must have'

Thoughts please?

You can have it fitted for £700 or if it's a OPC car get it fitted as part of the deal

Can you really? To a gen 1 car? Obviously without the timer on the dash, but assume button as factory fit right? Interesting!

I've got the Chrono option on my C2S Gen 2 but didn' go looking for it specifically, it just happened to be on e acar that I liked the look of. No idea how to work that weird clock on the dashboard (looks cool though) and not really sure what you get with the Sports Chrono package so maybe don't worry about it too much and hope a numpty like me comes to buy your car in a few years!

Don't think it'll make any difference by the time you shift on a Gen 1.

I've got it on my 991 and I've no idea what it does... Clock seems to have a mind of it's own

On a Gen 1 it's very much personal taste, although from memory I think its just a clock/stopwatch. On the Gen 2 cars it adds a quicker map to the PDK gearbox and turns on the Sports Exhaust (if fitted), on 991 it also changes the steering, the throttle response, the suspension set up and engages the dynamic engine mounts. It does make the car faster too, (sports plus option)....

I like it and have had 2 out of 3 911's with it. I think it adds a bit more character to the interior but some owners hate it, so just get it if you like it.

Depends if its gen 1 or 2....less important on gen1 now but relatively cheap to retrofit although bear in mind the car wont be 'original'......crucial on gen2 IMO otherwise the car will be worth less than the cost new as an option and be harder to sell....yes

Had a gen 1 C4S tip cab some years ago which had every extra except sport chrono.......less important on the cab but worth some £2k less than one with sc (£52k).

Sport chrono with the gen 2 PDK is crucial for resale....also makes the car much better to drive with effectively 3 settings, normal, sport and sport plus......thumbup

I have a gen 2 997 PDK with sports chrono and to be honest I don't think it makes much difference in reality. The sport plus auto gearbox map is way too aggressive for road use (intended for track use according to the manual) and throttle maps make little difference to me.

Having played around with the various modes for some time:-

Standard mode - provides by far the smoothest gearshifts (and still much quicker than a manual car), but I find that I do need to shift manually in this mode as the Standard auto map is way too conservative for my taste. Not a problem for me as I prefer to shift manually anyway most of the time.

Sport mode - This is the best auto mode for spirited road driving (I presume non-sport chrono cars have this mode too) but the upshifts can be a bit harsh when approaching the limiter. The throttle is more responsive too, but not a big difference. If it wasn't for the harsh upshifts at full speed I would use this mode all the time.

Sport Plus mode - Feels the same as Sport mode to me, except for the massively aggressive auto gearbox map which I never use.

In summary, I usually leave it in Standard mode when shifting manually (on backroads) and Sport mode for automatic (motorway/dual carriageway or feeling lazy). Sport plus mode seems pretty redundant, unless you like to do track days in automatic mode.

I realise it DOES makes a difference on resale though!
