Looking to change the cam on my LS7 - want to keep it drivable, give it a little more go and importantly, once remapped know it will still pass emissions come mot.

Does anyone have practical experience of how far to go before street ability and emissions go out the window?

I'm leaning towards a katech torquer 116 which looks like it gives a good compromise and emissions should still be good, bit if I knew I could go for a 110 I probably would.

Grateful for any advice from experience.

Cheers

my personal experience: in my L98 I installed a comp-cam of usa.
consumes a lot, at minimun not regularly,
under 2500gm the gtr tears.
You need to reprogram ECU obviously
but now runs much much più.MOSTRUOSA!!
if you put a cam less thrust will not feel much of a difference and you will have spent a lot of money for nothing.
I also changed the rods, rocker arms, springs etc etc to go up 7200gm

Best off speaking to Katech directly - some of them are more 'driveable' than others. The last thing you want on the road is something hugely aggressive in a light car - or indeed maybe that is exactly what you want!

Interested in this too. Not on the plans for this year but perhaps next winter.

I like the idea of a cam change to give, say, 10% more power and a different delivery profile. It would take me into the low 600hp category.

However, a supercharger could make a real leap in performance, but would it be driveable and fun or a clenched buttock ride?

Ideas on costs of either route would be good too.

The beauty of a blower is power delivery is almost N/A quality and very driveable but also when asked the question, delivers.
ETS sub £4K for low boost application. est. 100-150 BHP hike.
Milder cam and low compression set up for high boost applications 200 and up BHP would obviously hit you in the pocket!

Most cam changes would require the valve springs changing too, and possibly the guides, so it is not just the cost of the cam that you need to consider. Whilst you are in there, it would be worth changing the timing chain too (and the sprocket bolts), which is another ~$160

Please do a 'before and after' dyno test so we get a £/hp upgrade cost, as that sort of info would be very useful to all of us on here.
