Boy caught on speed camera 19 times

Swiss police dismisseth him

A teenager has lost his licence after passing a speed camera 19 times in a single night faster than the limit. The bad news for him was that this was in Switzerland, possibly the most anti-motorist country in mainland Europe.

The 19-year-old swapped his car's number plate for a fake one and deliberately raced past the camera. He and three friends were snapped in various poses -- usually hanging out of the car windows making obscene gestures and believing police would not be able to trace them.

They were recorded at speeds almost three times the legal 30mph limit.

But police in Bern, Switzerland circulated the images to their patrol units and the teenage racer was stopped as he set off home in the yellow Citroen with the fake plates still attached.

Obviously I wouldn't condone that bloke doing 90 in a 30mph limit, but....

A few years back when speed cameras where still young, a group of people I know found they could set one of them off on their mountain bikes. This became well known to the local kids, until the police eventually removed the camera for precisely that reason!

I know of a student who used to drive past a speed camera in Sunningdale well in excess of the limit, driving a Mini Convertable with the boot open (no plate visible) and the roof down. Usually displaying a hand signal to the flashing Gatso.

That student was definately not me. Oh no.

I know plenty of people who try (and never succeed) to set off cameras. Obviously not fit enough.

I heard that kids wrap footballs up in tin foil and kick them past the camera to watch it flash.
