4.5 cerbera cut out and wont restart

Hi guys

Driving down the motorway and it cut out,
Wont restart, just spins over. Try's to fire on easy start
But the fuel is getting to the rail ok. All fuses ok

Any ideas ???

Getting a spark?

I'd guess so , because something's catching the easy start. How strong though I'm not sure of.

It just broke down , no warning

Check you've got fuel pressure, nor just fuel in the rail.

Then borrow a noid light and test the injectors are actually firing.

I put a multi meter on the injectors and getting
Readings, not sure about rail pressure though, is it regulated ?

What controls the injectors ? Ecu or separate box?

Hopefully you're missing either spark or fuel. Check for spark by using aluminium foil, check for fuel by seeing if the plugs are wet.

If you have both spark and fuel - commiserations.

If you're missing spark, swap out the cheapest components first: Crank Position Sensor, Coil Packs, Plugs (why not).

If you're missing fuel, then then a blocked pump could be the culprit.

Getting fuel to the rail when cranking it so maybe the injectors aren't operating beyond that.
Guessing there is a spark because it try's to go on easy start so somethings igniting it.

Maybe a weak spark ?? HMMMMM i'll check it out
or bad ecu earth, or ecu. Dam could be loads of stuff

if its still not starting i d suggest not to crank it any more, have you had your timing tensioners checked recently? mine did that and it was the chain that had gone, leading to a rebuild

Hope it's all ok, I think you can check the chain without taking the cover off? Maybe a call to a specialist for some advice is worth it

I haven't done it the garage usually does, I think there is a hole in the cover that you can check, others here may be more clued up

Remove the oil filler neck ( be very careful not to drop the bolts inside the timing cover) check the tension of the shoe, Iirc there should only be a few mm movement slack, but double check this.

Check all coil pack connections, make sure all the ht leads are seated correctly as well and see how you get on.

Connectors seem ok , are they fused ?

Have you got the ECU software and a lead made up? Just to check the ECU itself is still doing as it should?

Unsure if they are fussed some might know? Worth checking all your fuses just in case for all the time it will take you.

Did you check to see if there was a spark from both banks or just one side?
