Greetings,
I used to own a 997 Carrera 2S but thought it time to try a 996 Turbo, my search led me to putting a deposit down on the midnight blue Tip X50 2002 model currently on sale with Hamilton Gray. The car as a huge main dealer history,12 month service intervals, folder full of invoices and the usual previous mot's, car was also previously sold by JZM. The test drive was epic and made my 997 feel like it was towing a caravan, on returning to the garage I looked under the hood to check the options sticker with the x50 code, but there was no sticker, I checked the service book, looked through the codes, no x50 code. I got under the rear of the car and checked the intercoolers, they had the usual protuding rough feeling edges as on an X50. Andrew Hamilton is sure the car is an X50 but why no code? The certainly seemed quick enough but this is the first turbo I have tried and its my first go in a tiptronic which I enjoyed btw. The car really is a minter with extended leather pack and also has a few £k's worth of upgraded touchscreen Pioneer hifi in place of the normal nav screen... I've seen engine number M9670-642. I intend to visit my nearest OPC to ask them. Any thoughts?

Should have the code listed, a non-x50 remapped car will feel as quick or quicker so if it's an x50 you are after be wary. The IC's could have been upgraded at some point as well so far from a guarantee. Another thing to look for but no cert by any means(as they are interchangeable) Does it have a standard exhaust? and is it the usual x50 tips? e.g.

If the car has been previously been sold by JZM take a trawl through all their sold cars on website and you may well find the one you are considering and their description will give you the answers. If not a quick email to Russ and I am sure he will pull out the file and tell you what they knew when they had the car....

Dave thank you, thats a great Idea, the car oval exhausts... though the intercoolers are the rougher ones with the raised edges as mentioned in a few threads on here. The twin tips were (as far as I know ) a separate option, or may merely have related to a certain model year (or the Turbo s ? ) .
I have a 2002 x50 & it has the oval tips, as do many I have seen advertised in classifieds.
Would suspect if it is not on the options sticker in the service book, that it didn't leave the factory as an x50.
OPC will tell you for sure with engine number, as (you know I am sure) there is a bit more kit than intercoolers (all of which I guess could have been retrofitted ? but unlikely I would suggest are there are/were other more cost effective options available if it was discovered "lacking in performance" & owner wished to upgrade it. )

Thats it, you beat me to it ha!I was bored and it is raining outside, so I spent 15 min checking the classifieds. Most x50 cars I found have the simple oval tail pipe tips, however most Turbo S's seem to have the fake twin pipe design.
As far as I am aware it is a purely cosmetic tip (cheap to add if you really fancy it, either OE or from someone else ) & has no effect I believe on neither noise nor performance.

Mine (non S, non X50) has the twin tips, I don't like them very much, the smaller exit is fake, don't see the point in that.As far as I am aware it is a purely cosmetic tip (cheap to add if you really fancy it, either OE or from someone else ) & has no effect I believe on neither noise nor performance.
Can live with however!
You won't be disappointed , licence loser , crazy performance for such little money .... If you do get the car simply enjoy , from a 997 your going in the right direction - Backwards ... Next 993 STOP right there , best 911 ever made ? Debatable , just my opinion but there were made properly back then .
Enjoy

Thanks! I plan to map the car with Viezu as they always charge me just £250 for all my cars, I won't go beyond that in the power levels as I think it's enough ha!! Enjoy
When I got my x50 last year, the sticker under the bonnet was faded and the owners manual had been re-issued so didn't show it either. The only way to confirm it left the factory with the x50 is to phone one of the official dealers with the engine / chassis number. From memory, I think it had an additional 'E' in with the numbers.
