Waaaheeeey, I've won the bible on EBay, trouble is it doesn't arrive until Thursday!
So without further ado
I recently had alternator off the car to clean it, didnt get water in to any workings,
Just installed it back into the car, connected it up, re connected battery, fired up the car for the first time in wks and odd things are happening.
1 soon as I turn ignition on the speedo needle jumps to 10 mph?
2. Start engine and battery warning light stays on?
3. Engine is revving at 1900 ?

Ok so what numpty thing have I done,
Recent things to consider,
Removed and cleaned stepper motor,
I'd connected the battery earlier and forgot the live wire to Alternator waving about, offered up Alternator and touched live wire, buzz!
Dis connected battery and carried on.
Have I blown a fuze of much worse!
Could the alternator be mullered!
What a tit.
Any ideas !

Sounds like you may have blown the 100amp fuse when you connected the alternator, hence the battery light remaining on. Did you connect all three wires to the alternator (the other is where the little rubber cap is covering in the shot below). It should be a spade connector that fits over it? As for the speedo, I would double check the earths and the stepper for the high idle issue. Firstly check the connection and then use a bit of PTFE tape on the stepper thread to ensure a good seal. Failing that, check the hose from the stepper housing to the plenum to ensure it isn't leaking air/ split.

I'm sure somebody will be around with a more definitive answer.

Thanks Chuffmeister. 100A fuse? I should have a spare that great gent Qbee gave me.
I have the plug leads tucked under the alternator, tidy but I don't like it so will take Alt off and have another play!
Yes everything connected correctly,
What a childish mistake!
Dis connect battery before removing,,,,,,,,, how many times have I read that in my life!

HT leads need to be spaced apart and correctly routed to prevent cross firing. Not directly related to the new issues, but bad practice.

A short circuit at the Alt may mean its mullered and no longer charging, hence the battery light is on permanently. See also in n the Bible.
Check all earthing points to try solve other issues. A rover gauge or an ecumate session should help identify.

Blitz also says if the battery has been disconnected to reset ECU etc. On reconnection it resets itself until it finds normal mode. This May account for your 1900 rpm on initial start up. It then settles down to 900 tick over as it warms up. Noticed it on mine since I have a battery cut off switch to save battery during storage and limit drain due to immobiliser function.

Does anyone know where you can get the original HT lead spacing/securing clips (the black plastic ones which fit to the rocker covers)?

My car doesn't have any - i've done my best with cable ties in true TVR fashion but not tidy.
I've had a good search but could only find some for £20+ which seems a bit steep for some plastic lugs.
