LT77 Rebuild/ T5 Swap
Discussion
Hi guys,
I was driving home today with my roof up and noticed my gearbox is getting rather noisy, whine-y and stutter-y when coming off the gas, especially in 5th gear. Not sounding healthy. Sounds like the bearings are knackered to me.
Sleeved exhaust with a 21 year old main cat and decat manifolds means you don't hear a lot when the roof is down!
She currently is equipped with the LT77 box, being a 93'. Question is, what has to come out in order to drop the gearbox? What is more cost effective- to rebuild the LT77 or swap to the later T5? Are there any modifications that need doing to accommodate it?
A master rebuild kit for the LT77 is c. £140 but the previous owner had the box rebuilt at least once in his 5 year ownership so maybe it's not the ultimate cure for the problem. Planning on a weekend away driving in Wales in the summer so want it sorted out by then!
Thoughts anybody?

Also! If anybody fancies joining with this little Welsh road trip I'll post about it nearer the time. Idea would be drive to Newport and take the A/B roads north through the beacons for 100 miles or so, crash at a B&B and drive back the next day. At the moment it's me in the beast and my son in his MR2 roadster.

I would suggest getting it out, and get it rebuilt properly. I'm sure there are plenty of TVR LT77 gearbox specialists out there but if you are struggling there is a guy in Redditch who designed and built my semi helical close ratio sierra gearbox for my westfield who is very competent.
