Anyone can download and keep several films, showing cars being built at the old Newport Pagnell factory. Very emotive.

Price - Free.

Surely, that must be a far better reminder of the NP Aston Martin factory, than buying an ebay brick.

I'm guessing the 10k was a charity donation, as the brick is, as you say, just brick. hehe

When the NP factory was demolished an idea was put on the table to present and sell boxed bricks for charity , this ultimately raised many thousand of pounds which went to Willen hospice , a local cancer care facility .
Therefore the " muppet " that paid 10k should be applauded , along with all the other contributors ( including myself ) who quite willingly paid excessive amounts for " a brick " .
I read this forum daily with great interest , but very rarely venture into the world of contribution , however in this case I felt some clarification was required .

When it was being demolished I popped over and the workmen gave me a brick. Looking at the colour scheme I reckon its from the gents toilets.

Just think how many craftsmen have used all their skill to aim at this brick. Maybe even the great DB himself has taken aim... biggrin

...by the way, google earth still shows the old buildings if you wan to reminiss..

whilst I applaud your giving for good causes......if you had written a cheque out then the charity could have reclaimed the tax on your gift and you could have reclaimed at your marginal rate. Just a thought smile

I'm with LMV600 on this. Willen is a hospice for children terminally ill with cancer and has been a cause that's been well supported by the NP workforce for years. When the bricks were offered for sale at one Bonham's auction there, one donor bought all the stock remaining at the end of the day. Generous - yes; muppets - I don't think so. And we buyers did sign up to gift aid

You realise it was a tongue in cheek post because someone was flogging a brick on eBay?
Don't take it too seriously, it wasn't a serious comment.

P.s.
It's not your brick is it?
Still just kidding. smile

Not mine !! god knows where it is but its still around somewhere . I remember all the ridicule when the idea was first thought of , selling old bricks ,, who's going to be stupid enough to pay for one of those . Just shows some of the simplest of ideas can tug on the old heart strings .

I understand Jaguar have just released a similar performing brick with more aggressive, subjectively "modern" looks, for less than half price. Boy, I bet whoever bought the more expensive, clearly outdated, brick feels rather hard done by...

Thank you for your clarification Chris.

It did appear from the start of the post, that there must have been a charitable aspect.

Trying to re-sell though is rather odd, because presumably any proceeds will not be passed to the original good cause.

I'm glad we've got that one clarified, but has anyone considered the Muppets here? I'm sure they've raised a fair amount for charity too.

Maybe someone intends buying them all up and rebuilding the factory like the Americans did with London Bridge?
