Anyone do this on a daily basis?

I am starting new job next week and need to get there by 9am.

What time would I need to set off from Poole to arrive by 9am?

Pretty much used to do the opposite journey barring a few miles (Hedge End to Bournemouth)! You will probably hit loads of crap going past Rownhams services/M3 junction in the morning as there always looked to be traffic there. Don't think there's really any way around it though frown

Probably doesn't help, but you can get a train from Poole through to Eastleigh Parkway and then from there to Hedge End station. The station is pretty central and is about a 10 minute walk from the main business places in Hedge End.

ETA - 7:30 would probably get you there by 9:00ish on an average day at a guess!

Hedge End station is closed for a good few weeks due to a landslip at Botley. There are no trains running between Eastleigh and Fareham at the moment.

Place I will be working is less than a mile from the station but it can be 2 train changes and 1.5+ hours.

I would leave at 7, and then you will miss a lot of the snails on the A31 through Ringwood and the M3/M27 junction.

Better to be there a bit early and have a coffee then sit in traffic for an hour and a half.

Wimborne to just off Junction 3 M27 takes 30-45mins (at 8am), depending on how quick/easy your access to the A31 is from Poole you may need to add more time to this, I know it's slow up to and past the M3 so I'd leave at least another 30mins for Junction 3-7. On the way home Poulner Hill and Ringwood always add an extra 10-15mins to the travel time.

BTW any accident and your f**ked, the A31 always travels ridiculously slowly during peak times as people don't filter back in to the inside lane after they've got past slower moving traffic, a lot of the time it is easier to sit in the inside lane at 60-65 and undertake queues of cars varying between 40 - 80, and pop out and back in past the grannys and the HGV's. Use the inside lane on the approach to Ringwood and the filter into the outside lane once on the down slope of bridge over the Junction.

Stop giving away all the tricks of the A31 laugh

Also, if the M27 into the A31 is busy, get on the inside lane there as well wink

I just go to Fordingbridge in that case, then down to Ringpiece, quicker & a more pleasent drive particularly on a summer Friday evening.

Oh yes I won't mention using the up and over slip road at the foot of Poulner Hill, using the slip road at Picket Post, the M27 Junction 2 to 1 route to Cadnam (especially good if your taking the fordingbridge route and traffic is backed up to junction 2). The Forest route to come out just north of Poulner, or the route from the top of Poulner Hill to the Fish Inn/Services entry on to the A31 just past Ringwood wink

Which is part of the reason why it gets congested and slows traffic further up.

Getting to Hedge End wont be a problem, butr as soon as the sun comes out getting home will be your problem. Every tw*t in the country with a caravan will be heading down that way in the evenings and you can easily take 2hours + getting back to Poole, on a Friday in the summer you easily say 3 hours frown

I wonder how he got on? The traffic was pretty bad from just after Junction 1 through to when I left at Junction 3 and beyond, however that was at 8.40am hopefully it was a little easier earlier on and he made it in plenty of time.

They have delayed my start date by a week.

Better for their administration etc. to start me at the beginning of a month. First day now Monday 3rd

How did you get on this morning given that someone nerfed the barrier in lane 3 eastbound just before the Hedge End exit during the rush hour.

Left 0730 and reached Hedge End junction around 0850 - build up was just starting. Blue lights went passed me a few seconds before I got off. Junction 2 was more of a delay for me today.

Return journey was just under an hour.
