Mk4 Golf - juddering under braking

So... typically as I need to sell my Mk4 Golf 2.0 in the next couple of weeks it's developed a pronounced juddering sensation through the steering wheel when braking. It's more pronounced when at motorway speeds with gentle weight on the brakes.

Anyone got any ideas what it might be? MOT is due in April so I need to sort that too - wondering if a fairly large bill is looming before I sell it off to a mate of mine!

I had this on my 1 series, it was caused by a sticky front caliper heating the disc up after a few miles. The vibration was quite bad and I suspected I'd need new discs but once the caliper was replaced the problem disappeared.

I'd be thinking of new pads and skimming the discs if there's plenty left on them, if not, change front discs too

I had this with my banger Bora, checked the discs and pads which had been recently done and they were ok.

Didn't seem to be a sticking caliper either.

Could be down to play in the steering bushes, i.e inner or outer track rods or maybe front control arm bushes?

Thanks folks - could be something to do with bushes then as I recall last year's MOT had an advisory mentioning one of them. Any idea if that's an easy/cheap fix?

Had a similar thing and it was a sticky caliper. I could feel the heat coming off the wheel due to it not releasing so might want to see if one wheel is getting hot.
