Sounds strange but any clues what/where i should start.

Last monday he calls in sick, same again tuesday. weds, thurs, fri, today nothing.

I know he lives alone, have tried calling/left messages and heard nothing back. I do have an emergency contact that i guess i will have to try soon.

maybe he has just had enough but not like him to vanish, in two years employment he has had 1 or 2 days off sick,

Call the emergency contact first.

Is he local? I think it would be appropriate to call round to check he is ok.

If no luck from either of the above, then I'd call the police.

100% this.

This seems very out of form for someone who has only had a couple of sick days.

Just follow the standard AWOL process, here's a link to a guide that walks you through the legalities of the process - http://www.p4performance.co.uk/p4-postings-our-blo...

Contact the emergency contact asap, i would have done so at the end of the first working day but you have no legal obligation to do so.

I need to deal with this quite a lot, when holidays aren't authorised are a usual time with the 'oh, i thought that had been approved' line used.

Yes try and get to the bottom of this sort of behaviour before jumping to any conclusions.

In my career so far the strange personal circumstances that people have never cease to amaze/scare me.

Let us know what happens.

I'd have to go and knock on myself just to make sure he/she's safe and well.

BIB I think would be my first choice if you are concerned about his welfare and it's totally out of character

Definitely call the police. Been in this situation and saved an employees life. He rang in ill a couple of days and no contact the third day. I started to get worried that there had been no phone call by lunchtime and no answer to to any phone calls made. I went round to their house. The car was in the drive but no answer at the door so rang the police. Convinced them this was definitely not the usual sort of behavior and they forced entry into the house and found him upstairs in the bathroom semiconscious.

one hour in, another message left on his phone, and message on emergency contact, no reply to either.

i guess i should just bite the bullet and get BIB on it.

I would think - I would hope - that they would completely understand your concerns and act accordingly.

As above - does he live nearby where you could go round and check? Might still ultimately involve BiB I guess.

Emergency contact has been in touch, they havent spoken to him in the last week but will aslo try calling (mobile is going straight to answer phone at the moment and is the only contact number) failing that he will pop round after work this evening.

Still tempted to call the BIB as hopefully they will call round asap.

Phone now being off is a little worrying?

Battery died?

I wouldn't wait until the EC can get round this evening to be honest.

I'd give the BIB a ring, at least put your mind at rest, you'll know you've done all you can then.....

Is he old or young?

I know where I work people tend to ignore calls etc simply because they are skyving. Not suggesting this for your employee & hopefully he is ok.
