Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions?

Don't drive so have been looking at some of these all inclusive coach trips (unless someone wants a passenger wink )

Best i seem to have found so far is selectmotorracing although they seem to only leave from London.

Not much of an issue can just get the train down the day before but just wondering if anyone knows any that are further north.

Get the train to London, Change for the Eurostar, Change at Paris for Le Mans.

Get a tram to the circuit. Pitch tent , open a cold one, DONE.

Not much help to the OP but I made my first trip to Le Mans 24hr on a Page & Moy coach trip in 1986.
I recall that we didn't get much, if any, sleep and it was pretty basic - lots of walking - but I'm still attending.....

I'm expecting a lot of walking, do fancy trying a night ops.

Select racing are doing the coach from London to lemans on the Thursday then back on the Monday, includes hotel for the 4 nights aswell but they are leaving one of the coaches at the track Saturday-Sunday to sleep in for those wanting to stay for £379.

Has anyone used them at all before?

Train or bus to Portsmouth. Ferry foot passenger to St Malo. Train direct to Le Mans. There used to be a Ferry terminal bus that takes you to the train station, only a few mins away.
Reverse for return.
Not recommended you take the suggestion above of Eurostar via Paris. Via Lille is far more efficient.

One of my friends is looking at fly (Ryanair etc) to Paris and then the train to Le Mans + tram current air fair from EMA is only £34! then just book onto a campsite or find somewhere to sleep track side.

OK get your point it was more for the recommendation of not using the coach! Also nearer the time you may find someone offering a lift.

I've used Motor racing International a few times, I cant fault them. The cheapo option is a coach starting off from Edinburgh which works its way down the country picking up people along the way. You get to Le Mans on Sat morning and leave an hour after the race. If you are pushed for time its a good option. They also do longer trips taking in Paris and other places. They used to have a big marquee but I haven't seen it in recent years, the last time I used them was 2007.

Hi

Annoyingly (for you) travel company Caledonian Travel - and as you live in Hamilton this should would ring a bell as are huge coach holiday operator - have run coaches for the past few years but no dates appear to be available for this year, although they are doing a few F1 departures.

Only company I can suggest is LEGER HOLIDAYS. Only problem is you may need to Megabus/overnight +1 either way to meet the coach as dedicated coach departures might not extend to Scotland, so they arrange express travel for that leg.

Leger Holidays - yuuk, just had a look. Overnight near Caen, spend 2 days at the circuit with only access to the coach. Drive Back to Caen for overnight. Drive to *Calais* for return to UK. That's called bad planning. Buy all your meals. Looks very expensive and grim. But I guess it will suit somebody.

Didn't know they did them, will fire them off an email and see if there's any plans.

Did look at leger as noted above didn't look greatly planned and seems abit rushed. Also no pick up points in Scotland, all down south.

Any more info on them ? Can't seem to find much on them ?

Also quick question for people that's been before, looking at ticket prices they charge extra for the grandstands but would like to get some night pictures from the top of a couple.

Would they let me go to the top with a general ticket in the stupid hours of the morning or would I need to borrow a phers ticket for an hour? laugh

I've been going since 1996 and I used MRI for the first 3-4 trips. Their service is good and they can fix almost anything you wish. They did have a marquee there for their customers which was a good base to get to cctv, food, beer etc and was, of course, out of the weather.

I haven't used them for several years. I decided to do LM on a DIY basis so joined the ACO to get preferential ticketing arrangements. I will also say no more than there is a substantial price saving.

Re accessing grandstands at night for pics, you won't be able to do this without a ticket in the evening BUT you may get lucky in the small hours. All grandstand entrances are attended so you will need to show a ticket but some attendees seem to go away for a couple of hours before sunrise so you may be able to sneak in. On their return some attendees trawl through their grandstand doing a ticket check but this is rare. Otherwise there are many banked areas good for pics but there is a catchment fence throughout the circuit which is difficult to avoid and which spoils many pics.

So borrowing one may be an idea? Do you still need a ticket for the grandstands for qualifying on the Thursday?

Motor Racing International's website; http://www.motorracinginternational.uk.com/lemans%...

Regarding grandstands, If you are only going for Sat/Sun, I'd book a grandstand seat otherwise you'll have to claim your spot for the start/finish early to ensure a good view. If you are pushed for time, knowing you have a reserved seat will give you more flexibility to explore for longer.

If you are going to be there on Wednesday/Thursday then I wouldn't bother as you can get into the grandstands for free.

Thanks guys the infos been great.

I should be there for Thursday qualifying so could get some high up pictures from the stands.

I keep forgetting that massive flipping Ferris wheels as well so I supposed that could do and hopefully is cheaper than the extra £55 for a grandstand ticket laugh

Another question which I did search but couldn't find much on google, is there any companies that do good pay as you go mobile/data packages for France? Or is it best getting a French one there.

Forget the phone package. Getting a line out for a call is hard. Getting an adequate data connection to actually use data is virtually impossible.

Most of the operators have a scheme which means it's not too bad. Vodafone charge a fixed rate of £2.50 (i think) per day, and then you get your normal call allowance and data.

I suspect having 300k people might have that effect. I'm with O2 and they are offering 1.99 per 15mb....

Nothing can compare to the call that I missed due to lack of reception last year. This was the call from my other-half telling me that our young puppy had had terrible diarrhoea overnight in his cage, and the he, his bedding, his cage and anything else was covered.... How glad I was that she could not hear my laugh.....
