Recommend me somewhere really good in Manchester

Hiya,

Any recommendations for somewhere REALLY good in Manchester city centre?

Money no object, "European" is the only suggestion on type of food I've got to go on so far from the GF..

I quite fancied a Steak which would automatically lead me to Gaucho but thought I'd ask the PH collective for other suggestions..

I saw there's a new "James Martin" place at the 235 casino... anyone been?

How about "The French" @ the midland hotel?

Anything better?

Manchester House or The Midland - both light years ahead for formal dining in Manc.

Semi-casual or relaxed should be San Carlo Chicceti (not the normal San Carlo - no where near as good) is fantastic - italian tapas/small plates.

Burgers is either Almost Famour or Luck Lust Liqur & Burn - both as good as any I've had in london (patty&bun, MeatLiquor etc)

Gaucho is,well, gaucho- good, but exactly the same as every other one.
Smoak @ malmaison is pretty good too.
Have heard manchester house is good, but have not tried it personally.

Rosso is not recommended, and neither is san carlo (opposite cicchetti).


Cicchetti is my first port of call when in town-food is superb.

Thanks all! I'll have a work through their websites and have a look at some menus!

Checked with "The French" yesterday, Friday nights booked up for weeks and weeks (mid-april) so it's certainly popular!

I think The Artisan is one of the nicest places in Manchester, and their Rib-eye is sublime

Used to work at The Midland, the French although rather formal is very good, or is was last time I went.

Some good suggestions.

I would say Manchester House is the best in Manchester at the moment and really trying for a Michelin star. Cicchetti is where I always pick for lunch... Love it! San Carlo is the best atmosphere and the food is quite good but more of a place to be seen.. Have to say it really is the most atmospheric restaurant I have been to and normally see a premiership player
(Cicchetti owned by the same people as San Carlo)

Just to add the food at Michael Caine abode is brilliant but I really dislike the setting.

Just to add my experience, Australasia is one of the worst experiences I've had.

The kind of shallow "spot the celeb" lace I didn't realise occurred outside London. In fact I think I started a thread on it here, poor food, woeful service but a gorgeous venue.

Yep. You get that alot in nice places in Manchester. Cringeworthy girls out only to pull a footballer or celeb.

The French is better than Manchester House for fine dining.

Mr Coopers at the Midland is also excellent. Australasia, Harvey Nics (still very good and more understated) and 63 Degrees worth a visit.

We had 'the works' at The French a couple of months ago. Outstanding.

Beef in Coal Oil I will never forget.
