My 8 year old entire male lakeland terrier has started drinking more water.

He's a robust dog whose only visits to the vet so far have been for jabs and stitches.

He eats a diet of gluten free low ash dried food with a raw chicken wing as a treat most evenings.

He doesn't usually drink much water - if it's raining he won't drink at all to avoid going out in the rain. Now however he is drinking at a guess twice as much as normal but he doesn't seem to need the loo any more frequently.

I know I need to take him to the vet, but what am I looking at? Kidney disease?

What do you think?

Get him to the vet IMHO.

Drinking more water can be the symptom of lots of things. They will probably carry out a blood test and then you can take it from there.

Does he not have free access to water in the house?

I notice you say he avoids going outside if its raining for a drink so he doesn't get wet.

^ No, he understands the connection between drinking and peeing so if he doesn't want to go out he doesn't drink. He has free access to water 24 hrs a day.

This has only been going on for 3 or 4 days.

Well he's had a good prodding and a blood sample taken and he's not impressed at all. They're going to ring me in a day or 2 with results.
