new bus stop design

Near me we have a typical high street with nice wide pavements, that allow for bus stops, so the bus can pull into its layby and let traffic past
Lately they have been filling in these laybys so the bus has to stop on the road and hold up traffic until it moves again, whats this all about?
We now have big areas of new pavement where the layby for the bus was
Is this some sort of safety measure?
Now if we get a bus running early it just sits and can cause a jolly big delay for everyone else stuck behind it

Wait for the other "improvements" - bus stops 20 yards past traffic-light controlled crossroads, and then the other classic from commie-car-haters - bus stops with a pedestrian refuge in the middle of the road about ten feet past the bus stop, again forcing the traffic to stop and wait when the bus does.

In a village local to me they actually have a bus stop in a one-at-a-time traffic calming area, so all traffic has to stop.

Crumbs - that's one of the most stupid bits of road design I've seen in a long time. Deliberately calculated to cause the most delay and hindrance. Is it not worth a letter to a local councillor to ask what they are thinking of? http://goo.gl/maps/Fld5X

Yes, that's a bus stop only a few metres from a very busy junction.
In the distance (well, about another 20m on) you can see the start of a bus lane. Why not put the bus stop in the bus lane? Too simple.

Hampshire style. Fill in the layby and add a traffic island, so you can't lawfully overtake the bus.
I assume this is all down to the idea that overtaking is "queue-jumping" and therefore cars getting past the bus move the bus further back in the "queue".
Or it could be as odious as simply making driving through Lyndhurst fractionally worse so taking trhe bus seems fractionally better.

The council have built (or allowed an "academy" to be built) on a land that was donated to them by some generous person that stipulated that it must always be used as a sports / leisure field, that pissed me off
But in their wisdom, they blocked up the perfectly good bus stop, and then put a pedestrian crossing ONTOP OF A FRIGGIN UNDERPASS!
Not only that they have to get teachers to stand on top of the frigging underpass to push the button to make kids use it
surely common sense would be to put up railings to funnel people to use the underpass
so now we have busses stopped next to the traffic lights all on top of an underpass

How about writing to the Council, enclosing photographs of the resulting queues, and ask them to justify their actions?
Ask who is to be responsible if a child is knocked down on the road when he/she could/should have been using the underpass?
How about reporting every stationary bus to the police for obstruction?
