Opinions on handling please

Afternoon fellow PHer's, could you please provide your opinion on what car handles better between a MK3 MR2 roadster and a MK1 TT 3.2. Sorry for the rather pointless question it's just for an argument at work. Thanks very much

tt will have more grip, mr2 will handle better

MR2 has very good handling according to those who have driven it.

The TT uses the Mk1 haldex iirc which is mostly FWD, and only sends power to the rear when the front slips.

I'd go for the MR2 personally

Not driven the 3.2 TT but have a MK1 1.8, have drove a fair few MR2's (MK2 & 3)

As mentioned the MR2 without a doubt

mr2 handles very nicly. it is more rear end biased edging toward to oversteer. mr2 is very sharp on steering. but TT is "easier" (for masses) to drive due to understeer on fwd/4wd chassis.

Exactly, and it can only send a maximum of 50% to the back wheels.

Coupled with a heavy lump up front, it's a recipe for understeer.

Are you actually discussing grip?

TT quattro will probably have a higher limit of adhesion, but will me a nightmare beyond that.
MR2 will have a lower ultimate limit but will be controllable and useable beyond the limit.

I prefer handling to grip, old Audi Coupe Quattros are the best examples I can think of of all grip and no handling! A Nissasn 200SX S13 is the best handling car I have driven in such a way as I can comment on, and it let go quite early but always predictably and controllably.

I would have thought the MR2 would have more lateral grip, if a little less traction.

But I thought this was about handling ?

Not driven the Mk3 MR2 (currently own a Mk2) and used to own a 3.2 TT.

No contest IMO. Although "best handling" could be somewhat subjective.

Thanks for your opinions everyone, very much appreciated, it's nice to get an opinion from people who know about cars. I do get so much stick from people calling it a hairdressers car etc, but I believe it really does handle well and it is so much fun on a twisty road. No doubt the TT is a faster car though I'm sure.
