One of our team has a milestone birthday while we are away at Le Mans. In a bid to break away from the merguez and stubbies routine, we would like to dine out as a group (11) on the Thursday afternoon/evening.

Can anyone give us any bookable recommendations, from the nice to the special and extortionate, which are within tram/stumble distance of the circuit. Points will be awarded for anything that allows us to watch the qualifying while we eat (I've no idea what the restaurant on the Mulsanne is like for booking).

Thank you!

Have a look at La Chamade on rue Doree. You must book ahead.

La MaiSonnete on the corner of Rue Dorée & Rue des 3 Sonnettes.
My Mrs & I ate there after the drivers parade last year

Good prices, great food & service.
No booking required, just rock up

In my experience people seem extremely secretive about good restaurants in Le Mans. Perhaps with good reason, I don't know.

Either way, we went to a place called Le Nez Rouge, somewhere in the back streets, on the Sunday night. Was lovely, full of very relaxed car people and the French, brilliant.

We've found a very good one but I'm not telling everyone on here about it as we want to get a table this year biggrin

Are we saying in town or near the circuit? The Auberge de Matfeux at Arnage is a quality restaurant as is the Beaulieu (one star Michelin) in town, but there are many more I can recommend to you such as the Auberge des Blés d'Or at Ruaudin, my personal favourite, where for £30 you'll have a meal to remember I can assure you and virtually the same for £20 at lunchtime. It's only a mile or so from the family Village on the Mulsanne, plenty of parking, and a pretty good wine list, although not exceptional. I don't think they are open in the evening on the Thursday, but might be because it is Le Mans week. It depends on whether it is a dinner or lunch and in or out of town. Also a price bracket would help. Let me know or pm me and I can make the arrangements if wished.

ETA For the Classic, I am starting shortly a list of those who would like to eat together on the Friday lunchtime and this will be held at the Auberge des Blés d'Or at Ruaudin. They have a big function room and I already have enquiries from as far away as Canada and Switzerland for this. Keep your eyes peeled if interested.

I can definitely recommend the Auberge de Matfeux. We eat there every year. The food is excellent and it's only a short distance from Arnage. Unfortunately they dropped their signature whole plate of Morel mushrooms last year, being just a week out of season (I blame the rather late LM24 last year). Hopefully back on the menu for this year!
Edited to say..... It's not cheap.
