Got a long weekend planned in Yorkshire and want to take in a bit of tarmac scenery en route.

Plan is a couple of nights in the city centre, followed by a couple of nights in Goathland with a trip to Whitby planned.

Any good roads to check out?

Yorkshire Moors, Helmsley to Stokesley is my favourite bit around there

If you have a lot of spare time try a bit of this

If these links don't work I'll try them again when I get in my pc

The Barnard Castle/Alston 'figure of 8' is fantastic. Richmond/Ribblehead/Leyburn a close second. thumbup

I've done both of those on the long route around the Yorkshire Dales and Teesdale etc a few times but never on consecutive days. Next time the weather is looking good over two days I'm free (preferably during the week) I'll be doing both with a stop off around Richmond/Barnard Castle way, can't wait.

Ribblehead/Hawes/Buttertubs is a fabulous drive. Its also well worth a detour after Buttertubs up to Tan Hill then the Long Causeway to Reeth then onto Leyburn

The usual suspects so far , some of which tend to be busy with people doing just the same as you are- Stokesley- Helmsley is fine, if short, but often biker hell at weekends. If you get away from the North York Moors (not 'the Yorkshire Moors')then the Wolds in the East Riding have some wonderful 'roads less travelled ' . An early morning blat in my Seven from home (near Thirsk ) to Driffield via Malton is always a treat and , in season . complemented by a bacon butty at the bikers cafe at Fimber near Fridaythorpe_.

Definitely some great roads along that route, Coxwold to Oswaldkirk (or do you go Sutton Bank?) and then the B1257. Less keen on the B1248 but still decent.

I've driven sections of both these routes but never in one go.

They both look excellent and are on the list!! Thank you.
