Very nice Rebekah, without meaning to sound sexist, it's not really a girls car is it?

I like the wheels.

No I mean your actual wheels.

What happens in second gear when you floor it in the wet?

Well it's technically a 4.4.

Must admit I'm a crap driver, only recently coming to the realisation of it. I was under the delusion of macho manliness that I was some sort of driving god.

I think with a polish up, that 39 will look very smart indeed, especially with those rims. smile

Would love to know what percentage of these e39 5 series were made in manual with the v8. Must be pretty rare!

According to BMWfanatics

1997 TOTAL = 533 of which 0 were manual
1998 TOTAL = 534 of which 54 were manual
1999 TOTAL = 279 of which 38 were manual
2000 TOTAL = 240 of which 11 were manual
2001 TOTAL = 146 of which 3 were manual
2002 TOTAL = 87 of which 2 were manual
2003 TOTAL = 47 of which 1 was manual

But those were figures on E39 540i SA imports, but according to Bimmerforum, atleast 1250 were sold in the US.

I am wondering where this came from because it definitely is a 4 litre, well just short of it. So where did you get that from?

I even double checked with my dad who services it and there's not a lot he doesn't know.

I had one of these and it was a brilliant car - the engine is definitely 4398cc.

Def. 4.4 only other V8 fitted to the E39 (bar M5 and Alpina models) was 3.5 in the 535, I would have thought your BMW tech Dad would have known this.

I think there's often an assumption that the model nomenclature is specific to engine size when in actual fact there have been many examples where this isn't the case.

116, 118, 120i all 2.0

Many others pointless to list.
