The cost of jam jars!

I've just been and stocked up on a load of herbs and spices from my local Chinese supermarket (very lucky to have one so close...Chung Wah in Liverpool Chinatown)
When compared to the Schwartz mini jars (which won't even fit a teaspoon in, which is a major design flaw!!) the bargain that is semi bulk bought spices is amazing. Just got 400g of ground coriander for £1.19! This compares to the Schwartz 38g jar for £1.60 at Sainsbury's!
Anyway I wanted to jar the stuff up and even at my local Supersaver type place an empty jam jar was 89p, reducing my thrift somewhat.
The solution was to go to Aldi and buy a dozen jars of marmalade at 27p a jar, throw all the marmalade away and when boiled and de-labelled off, the jars are now resplendent full of my bargain powders in the cookzone! :-)

I buy my spices from Mattas on Bold St and store them in little plastic airtight containers from Home and Bargain. Dearer than 25p but I bet it felt weird tipping all that perfectly good marmalade in the bin?

We like glass in Hoylake rjo!! Would love a collection of Kilner jars but the Aldi ones will do fine for now. I go to Mr Matta for my squid and fresh veg when passing through, good to see him going on strong!! :-)

I have a small set of coloured Kilner jars - but my collection of spices and spice-mixes soon outgrew them

The 'Asian' sections in most large supermarkets have bulk spices at silly prices too.
