Goodwood hoon: Time For Tea?

'Supercars ragged round country estate!' No, not the latest vid from our friends TaxTheRich but in fact an off-season bit of film from the originator of that very concept - Lord March.

'Lord March, about that 'vette embedded in your hall...'

We have Anthony Reid - who shared the drive in the fabulous Lister coupe with Chris Harris at the Revival - and three very powerful rear-wheel drive road cars. There's a Jaguar F-Type V8 S, an Aston Martin V12 Vantage S and a Corvette C7 Stingray. Reid is sent up the hill with flat cap and GoPros, under strict orders to switch all the driver aids off.

To which we say fair play. Goodwood's hillclimb is a narrow, bumpy and not especially accommodating piece of tarmac in the middle of the summer and bordered with hay bales. In the bleak mid-winter, greasy of surface and bereft of crowds and trackside protection, it looks a very different and altogether dicier place. OK, there are a few disinterested sheep to act as run-off halfway up but that nasty flinty wall on the other side looms menacingly and there are some very sturdy trees alongside that first corner he drifts around.

It's run against the clock and the times are very interesting too, especially given it's the one that looks the biggest handful that does particularly well.

The Corvette is less than half the price of the Aston and is quicker in that test. What a bargain that is.

I don't know why but that video actively annoyed me. It might be my high video watching standards watching this straight after a Chris Harris video but the camera wasn't good enough to record slow motion enjoyably, they guy turned the TC off on all cars which is all well and good but why compare track time on each run when he's doing silly wheel spins off the line etc?! /rant

I imagine the "light up the tyres" is in the vague hope of getting some heat into them...

He may say the Vette feels compact but it looks MASSIVE compared to the other 2 ;0

I agree, along with the same screechy-tire sound effect dubbed over the first corner for each car. Should have just made it about the cars and the hillclimb and left out the timed aspect of it, it was pointless

That sort of slow-mo was acceptable 15 years ago when I was watching mountain biking videos. Now, just .. just gash. Hell, Chainspotting was much better!

The Corvette is stunning, and I think looks the part outside AND inside even when compared to these British stunners!

Plus NA engine with a Manual box plus a removable targa roof, even discounting the money side make it very appealing!!

Basic rule of thumb (to include taxes etc.) is use the dollar value and convert to pounds sterling.

Not sure if the engine was actually on in that shot. Think the revs were at zero.

Not sure why they didn't compare the F Type Coupe instead of the convertible a lot stiffer and another 70hp or so...

Pointless if that was the order they ran and there were no practice runs. You'd do best of 3 at least. A driver keeps learning a track & conditions until it's perfected after a good few dozen times.
