Car sales 5 day week with a Sunday off?

I am considering a move back to car sales but don't want to give up the important things to me. The reason I left the motor trade was although I worked a 5 day week, I worked every weekend which meant I couldn't get time off with my girlfriend or friends. I see Peter Vardy are closed on a Sunday and know Phoenix Car Company work a 5 day week, but is there anyone in or around Glasgow that combines these two?

If you are half good at selling then get into B2B IT - always Mon-Fri, and there is money to be made.

I used to work a 66 hour week,selling cars and won't name the company, I actually loved the job but the hours were just too much. Based in the south of Glasgow too. I think it must be a tough gig nowadays competing with internet prices but the hours seem more relaxed now, the sales guy in my local BMW seems to never be at work, maybe he's avoiding me.

It's really the "car" part of car sales that interests me / I enjoy as I am a bit of a car nut. I've since been internal and external sales in electronics but didn't/don't enjoy it nearly as much as I wasn't interested in the product. I did go into vehicle leasing briefly which was better working hours but as its over the phone and your not working with the product it really wasn't the same.

I know I'm really wanting my cake and to eat it but worth asking about. Heard an ad looking for sales execs for Motorpoint with a 5 day week but they're open on a Sunday

I don't know if you perhaps aren't using your brain, but I'll help you...

People/Joe public generally work Monday-Friday. If they want to go and browse a car showroom, its likely the only time they (both husband and wife/kids (they go to school you see)) can make it to see/test drive/agree on a car is at the weekend. Therefore I would challenge you to find any car dealer that doesn't open on weekends, it would be commercial suicide not to, unless it was totally fleet or something like that.

If you do not want to work weekends, a general rule of thumb is, do not sell products where the buyers are the public.

I fully understand the commercial argument for working weekends (I have not mentioned being off weekends just Sundays) in car sales and I am happy to work Saturdays but I feel a Sunday off with another day off during the week isn't unreasonable and having lived in Spain previously it works fine for them.

Sell cars in Spain then, but in the UK we have Sunday opening, a family wanting to change car may spend the entire weekend visiting multiple dealerships looking for the right car, specially if they are on a deadline to change (end of PCP or car that needs £XXX to pass it's next MOT)

Every car sales place I worked at wanted me to work 6 days one week, 5 the next!

Eventually I fell into van sales and we shut Sunday and half day Saturday which was the best I found.

I got out of car sales as i was fed up with:

A: constantly being treated like a scumbag rip merchant.
B: having to deal with online, which meant 0 profit to actually earn anything
C: silly long hours, expected to literally be phoning non existant leads 24/7 or be running after customers the moment they even blinked at the forecourt
D: Finding out that its always the workshop vs the sales team, rather than working together.

generally enjoyed it when I was selling vans but in cars its a total arseache!

I'm using Spain as a first hand example, there are plenty of countries have one day that is considered a day of rest for all bar the most essential services. Unfortunately here in the UK we do seem be of the opinion that everything we could want or need should always be available whenever it is convenient to us rather than considering those expected to work during these times like weekends, late nights, bank holidays etc...
Surely if you have a deadline such as MOT coming up or PCP deal running out joe public can do a bit of forward planning and look over two Saturdays rather than one full weekend which also allows time to think things over which customers always seem to want to do?
Services such as local GPs and the vast majority or repair garages aren't available on Sundays and we seem to manage to live with that despite these probably being more essential and less predictable than retail of any kind.
Anyway, I believe this is a matter of opinion, which everyone is entitled to, but my original question was does such a company exist, not if we thought they should. I believe I have now found one and am considering my options.

As I said this isnt a thread discussing if we agree with car dealerships being open 7 days a week so I wont bother going into what I do with my Sundays off.

And numerous people have pointed out the obvious as to why they're all going to open over the weekend. I've sold cars, it's st for many reasons. The main one being what we are discussing here.

Also if argue it you love cars then don't sell them, as more often than not it's not about passion for cars, it's about flogging gap insurance and roping people into pcp's they don't really want to do.

Well, quite or at least have your weekends.

For the same amount of energy it's better to not mix business and hobby/interests. I'm, in IT (broadly speaking) - and the subject topics interest me, but I don't play with the technologies I work with at home.

I love cars, but outside of a few niche jobs, I wouldn't want them to be my day job as well, there isn't enough money in it...
