So I like to think I am a bit of an energy drink fan, I gave sampled pretty much every one you can get...

I spotted this today....

Red Bull with ZERO CALORIES. Must be worth a go, until you flip it over and...

Well it's got 1.8kcal/100ml

And that can is 250ml, so it's got 4.5kcal per can.

So not zero calorie. How does that work?

Also it tastes shyte rofl

Nice

I picked up 80 cans of Sugarfree Red Bull @ £2 per 8 not long back, local Co-Op had them piled up.

Sugarfree is the best compromise on Red Bull IMO.

Seemingly the red blue and silver cans are in Superdrug for 5p each

I think if it's less than 2 or 3 calories per 100ml they can in fact legally advertise it as calorie free. I thought this was only true in the US but maybe I imagined that bit. Still absurd.

Why on earth would you want an energy drink which contains neither sugar nor calories?

Because it still provides energy without needing to have sugar or calories.

Where does the energy come from in something that has no calories?

Caffeine and not so good chemicals I would imagine.

But aren't calories the measure of useable energy contained within food?

Ergo if something has no calories it has no useable energy

I think there is some confusion here between "Energy" and "Stimulant".

Monster Zero is by far the best IMO and is the closest to genuinly being 'Zero'. £1 a can in Tesco if you buy a 4 pack.

I don't consume anything that has artificial sweetner in it. Its not natural & not good for you.

Eat Sugar, Salt & Fat in smaller quantities and you will be fine.

Aspartame is made of two naturally occuring amino acids which your body processes like a protein. Consumed sensibly (like sugar) it wont do you any harm (like sugar) but be less calorific than sugar.

I bought some today and was just thinking the same thing.

Apparently, under European regulations a product containing no more than four calories per 100ml can be called ‘zero calorie’.

I still say it's misrepresentative though.

the Red Bull sugar free / zero dont say "Energy" on them. As has been pointed out, you can't.

They refer to it as Stimulation or Vitalize or use other synonyms. Energy = Calories under food regs.
