Outlook won't pick up Hotmail

As of today,Outlook will not pick up email from Hotmail unless you upgrade for £15 a year.

Eudora or another mail package beckons then (I'm running Outlook Express and Hotmails still come in just fine BTW)

Where did this news come from? OE still working fine at the mo, and nothing on the web site to suggest anything is changing.

I thought I read somewhere that this change isn't supposed to happen for existing hotmail email addresses until next year. They claimed that the change is necessary because of a new security vulnerability (bull****)!

My ability to pick up Hotmail through OE was turned off by M$ about 2 months ago. And no I wont be paying the premium to reinstate it.

It appears that only seems to apply to the account that I've had for about 3 or 4 years and not my wife's account, which is only 6 months old.
Apparently it is only new accounts that need this upgrade.

It will go offline for existing non-subscribed accounts in january can't remember exactly which day. had the same email. all new accounts will have to subscribe.

Hmmm, there seems to be something going on here - I can't pull down my hotmail.co.uk emails (new address just set up) either.

Mmmmm the email address I set up yesterday @hotmail.co.uk works sometimes but not others. Think I'll try Eudora too.

Strange this - Hotmail .com and .co.uk both worked on our 2 PCs last night through OE6

If outlook express no longer works, then eudora won't either as it's the WebDAV method that has been turned off.

There may be some mileage in utilities that screen-scrape the html code to get the emails (gotmail is one that I know if in Linux) but they're quite a bit slower.

Microsoft's excuse for turning this off is the number of people using this mechanism for sending spam.
