Hi from across the pond. Been in love with the Ultima since in engineering at university around 1999/2000. Lots of life and a career change later, and still can't afford one, but it is on my "must do" list and the finances are looking up. Perhaps a few more years, hopefully they are still being made!

Recently ran across the PH forums while poking around for info as colleagues at work have been discussing various supercars and track cars. Now I'm hooked on PH. Managed to read about half the threads on the first 50 pages... only another 200 and the other half the threads to go!

Question... I've read lots of discussion over the years about alternative transaxles; Ricardo box, Graziano, variety of sequentials, etc. I think I saw mentioned once someone had considered an auto box. Although blasphemy to many I'm sure, modern auto's seem to be in the running for real track use as an option to DCT. I know there is a power loss and weight penalty and perhaps more heating/cooling issues, but figures I've seen are around 5% difference manual vs modern auto with lock up TQ etc.

Anyway, reading about the new 2015/2016 Corvette 8 speed tranny really made me wonder. 8l90 I think it is. Good for 740 ft-lb input torque, and as the recent Corvette's have used the front engine rear transmission layout, there is an off the shelf option allowing direct mating of transmission to rear diff to create transaxle setup similar to G50. Looks not insignificantly longer than G50 though; I can imagine the engine position would shift, and perhaps too much to be workable for a V8 though I can't find any good dimensions of the Vette transaxle setup (should be same/similar to the current 6l90 I would think). And electronic controls might be a real PITA, unworkable for the average builder perhaps, though GM tranny paired with GM engine (maybe even new LT4) might make that possible.

Anyway, back to reading and counting the days, months, years...

lol... just realized that as the GM setup isn't designed as a proper transaxle the length difference is... oh, only three feet or so!
