Forces without Traffic Divisions
Discussion
In a thread on the Safe Speed forums:
Right. I know Kent has also abandoned their traffic division. I've heard that at least half a dozen forces have abandoned their Traffic Police. Let's get the list together.
What Police forces no longer have traffic divisions?

Once you've identified them, I'd be writing to them to ask them for their stats for their conviction rates for driving related offences over the last, say, 10 years. That should generate a picture of what is happenening. Not sure if the next stage of the Freeedom of Information Act is any use to you in this area.

Actually I don't think it's very good for generating a picture. Folk aren't very aware of county borders and form an opinion of risk over time and various places.
I realised this when I learned that drink drive was up in Northern Constabulary, even though their traffic strength hadn't been reduced.
I think we're getting a national picture, and I think only national figures will describe it. I'm sure local changes contribute to the national picture, but I don't trust the local figures to describe local conditions in isolation.

This must be me.
Kent has the M2, M20 and a chunk of the M25 in it. Staffs has a busy bit of the M6.
And they have *no* traffic divisions - at all ???
The danger on *all* the above road is not generally speeding - it is cr*p driving - tailgating, lane swerving, middle lane doddering or just plain being too busy. How are the Bib supposed to do anything ?
