Just seen one up for auction shortly and was shocked by the estimation of price (low), now obviously if the cars a mess it will cost a fortune to put right but sub £2k with a newish MOT it's got to be worth more than that?

They're a bit funny-looking. Slab-sided and narrow. I'd have one like a shot but I'm busy motorcycling at the mo'.

Indeed not the prettiest car from the outside but inside looks comfortable in a wood and leather old school club style combined with that whopping great big v8 all with a roof you can remove.

That was my first thought, buy it, run it for a while, join owners club, break it for parts but to be honest it probably deserves to exist as a car a while longer.

At that estimate, it's a gift. Shame it's a colour change tho. Could be the quality of the respray is a factor in the low price.

That roof looks a complete dog's dinner. If you removed it I'd worry you could ever get it back together and
watertight.

It caught my eye in the catalogue, but it's worth far more than the estimate.

I've always considered these ungainly and slightly pointless, with so many more convincing rivals available.
All a bit " Emperors new clothes" these cars; the motoring intelligentsia, like Setright, extolling their virtues encouraging others to believe they have something special to offer. Id have a dark green 603, but the 412 is a shocker.

Add a zero to the estimate. "Some recommissioning to bring it back to tiptop condition" might of course mean a total restoration, but with a fresh MoT it could be worse. Roll hoops and windscreen frames can rot out on these, which is fiddly and time-consuming to fix (as well as the usual Bristol rear-end-of-chassis rot of course). It should have a removable hard-top for the back as well. Those are not the original wheels (in fact I've never seen cross-spokes like that on a Bristol before). If it works well it could be a bargain - I've only once driven one, but a good 412 is often said to be one of the nicest Bristols to drive, and your only choice if you want wind in the hair motoring.

What are the headlights of that 412 pinched from? I thought Vauxhall FE, but on looking, it's not. Driving me nuts!

That's what I think, its a type and should say £10000 to £15000. I'm still going to bid £2000.

Those look like Jaguar XJ40 type alloys, seems to be a common thing to put Jaguar wheels on a Bristol.

Overall, it looks very useable and actually quite elegant. Reg plate would be worth more than reserve I'd have thought, so certainly undervalued.

This will possibly be the first Bristol sold at auction since Tony Crook died, and now they have stopped making them I expect the values to rise a lot.

The auctioneers (H & H) are expert at putting a very low estimate on certain cars as a 'teaser' to bring the buyers out. It usually works for them - it will be interesting to see if it works this time.
