I was looking to buy a registration plate on the DVLA website a while back however was going away so I left it until until I came back. Upon returning I went to purchase the plate and realised that the registration plate had been removed from the DVLA website.

After calling them they explained that the reg was still available but had been removed from the website and the only way that I could buy it was to buy it at auction. I was then told that the would not not be put through auction until there was significant interest in it.

This seems a bit daft as it is unlikely that a large amount of people are not going to call about a registration that is not listed on the website and I can't see the plate going to auction for years to come... Has anyone had any experience buying a plate this way or does anyone know how I could get the plate quicker?

It's not daft at all. If you enquire about a plate it usually appears in an auction fairly soon afterwards, so just keep your eyes open.

I had initially enquired about the plate around 12 months ago and was told it was going to go to auction. After calling for an update yesterday as I had not hear anything I was told that the have got my interest on the system however they won't send it to auction until the registration plate has more interest, which I cant see many people ringing about it as it's not on the website.

Hmmm. Yes, it sounds as though you have already done everything you can. Frustrating.

Strange, isn't it? I wonder how much interest is 'enough' for them to include the plate. Considering some of the tat they sell, especially in thd timed auction, I can't believe that all those plates have interest.
I've asked for 5 plates to go to auction yet am still waiting, even though DVLA have confirmed they'll be included at some point. Yet I hear people saying they've asked for a plate to be included and it's appeared in the following auction.
I can't work out why some combinations of new registrations can be bought online but some just aren't available.
The DVLA moves in mysterious ways.
