Sub £1k estate for a 3000 mile euro trip

Hi all, sorry for ANOTHER what car thread, but you guys have the good opinions !! But yeah, 3000 miles, 4 21 year olds. We need something with space for people and loads of stuff, a bit of poke, interesting but low insurance. Thanks

Honda Civic Vti Aerodeck, not the biggest estate car but 170 horsepower, decent economy and should do the trip without breaking a sweat.

Saab 9-5 Aero. Loads of them for under 1K now and with 240hp, should be fast and comfortable!

Also, as it's a saab and not often crashed by yoofs, insurance is surprisingly cheap for them too.

Some very interesting ideas!! We're leaning towards the swedes I think. I found it quite hard to find an aero 95 though!

Good luck with the XM; 2 on ebay, neither estates. Zero on autotrader.

This, or a 9xx estate from Volvo, plenty of space and comfort and if you get the turbos they are plenty brisk enough too.

Those ^^^^ or a 2.8 V6 A6 Avant.

As close to bullet proof as you are going to get for under a grand and All Volvos are Very comfy.
If you go Audi A6 Avant don't go for a sport trim one as the seats are hard for long journeys.

Ford Galaxy v6? It possibly has a bit more comfort and space than a standard estate.

I looked after recommending one as the last time I looked there were loads of estates not selling, mainly due to them being massive.

You are right, none now! Could let mine go for £700 but you could get a cracking Mondeo or Civic for that so it's not the best bargain!

There is a blue 95 Aero estate on PH classified now; lots of information too as it has a readers cars thread about it as well

Not mine but I do have a black Aero that I'm very happy with - I'd swap it for the blue one though; gone a bit OCD with blue and turbo!

You want a Peugeot estate diesels for £1k you'll get a tidy 406 hdi. I'd budget for a couple hundred for maintenance too.

Funny this has popped up, me and a friend are doing Scandinavia end of the summer, then all the way back through Europe to Brittany, car of choice? A Peugeot 405 diesel, cheap to run, easy to repair on the road, and they never ever die! Plus should be plenty in scrap yards if needed.

Majority of the suggestions above are going to cost you a arm and a leg to repair if it breaks.

If they never ever die...why are there loads in scrap yards?
