Afternoon good people

After being a little over exuberant at Spa, its time to replace my sh*gged Bridgestone S02's. Running the original 16 inch wheels on my 4.2, 225/45/16 front 245/45/16 rears.

Anybody on the later Bridgestones? I see from there website there appears to be a multitude of choice.

What other rubber (no tacky comments Fubes/Touching Cloth) are people happy with at the moment?

looking primarily for virtues that would suit fast road work with the occasional trackday, to include excellent dry handling, good traction, and stable under brakes. I am not overly concerned about wet weather performance as long as it s 'safe' when driving steadily, as the car doesnt see much rain. With the attributes I am looking in a tyre, wear is only expected to be average, and that acceptable. Interested in prices as well if you could oblige.

Thanks in advance.

Good selection of TOYO 888s on here but a bit shocked that you still have S02s. I thought they went out of production about 7 years ago ??

I use T1R but can't find 'em for you in 245 scratchchin
( I've got 255/35 x 18 )

Good year eagle f1 asymmetric 2 fantastic tyres I have 2 sets for the cerb , great roads tyres and good on the track. Predictable and great in the wet as well, I just put a set on our cooper s this week, fantastic on that as well.

Very cheap on here as well, £127 for the rear spiders great value!

Sorry scrap that they don't seem to do them for the 16" wheels frown

Off topic, what's it like none run flat? I need a new set on ours but SWMBO is scared of getting a puncture.

100% better in every way, less road noise much smoother on the bumps, ours is a early r53 so quite firm. As for puncture, a can of tyre weld compressor and RAC card. Been on non run flats for about 2 years 20k. Just let your insurance know some don't like you changing ours could not care less.

Cool. Thought so. Ours is a also an R53. I am used to the tyre weld option after 14 years with Cerbie, but she is worried. It doesn't help that we have had a few issues with punctures and rim sealing issues. That damned red tyre warning light has been on too many times! 99% of the time she is in it on her own, So she still needs convincing.

Iv just bought 2 Goodyear eagle f1 asym 2's from that tyreleader (245/35/18) for ..........£20.38 delivered, how surprised was I when they actually turned 2 days later

Got the fronts on order at £96 each (225/40/18), iv never tried good years but always wanted to due to there glowing reviews

Iv found Yokohama parada spec 2 very good on the road and track, lasted me ages, some folk speaking highly of AD08's for track use as well, hard wearing and better in the wet than 888's

Overall find tyre leader very good for prices and I check daily for typo mistakes to pricesbiggrin

Funny you should say that we had quite a few issues with run flat pirelli's when we first got the Bini (hehe I can call it that now we have a rust bucket on the way) , she drove for days on a flat rear non the wiser, no obvious damage put down to sealing issues as well. No problems at all with non run flats

Sticking to the original manufacturer sizes for the 16", when replacement time came, I could only find Toyos for the back.

But Continental Sport's for the front. They're a lot better than the Toyos IMO.

I'd recommend the Yokohama AD-08 without hesitation. It's a great tyre for what you are looking for, full tread depth (8mm) unlike some other aggressive road tyres.

I am too looking to change tyres soon and running the 16" spiders but tyre choice seams to be limited and wanting good wet weather handling which the Toyo's I have never found to be that great in. I am considering going up to 17" wheels to increase the choice of tyres available and to take up some of the rear tyre wall, as I think the standard wheels look to be a bit over tyred. If anyone has any wheels for sale drop me a message, have considering 18's but concerned about the number of potholes I already have to drive around!

Mr C, you are quite correct, they went out of production in 2008, but I managed to hunt down a set in 2011 that were perfectly preserved and for the silly price of £400 fitted for all four corners. They have been terrific under all circumstances.

Thanks for the responses, but finding replacements may be difficult due to lack options available.

Reading with interest as I'm just about to replace the tyres on my Cerb... However, I have noticed some slight differences on sizes.

I've currently got the following on my Spiders:

  • 255/35ZR18 94Y
  • 225/35ZR18 87Y
So... What should the sizing be???

On my spiders I run

  • 255/40/18
  • 225/35/18
Some can get away with a higher front profile, I think I would struggle a little.

OK... So a slightly deeper profile on the rear.

The ones which caught my attention were:

  • 245/35/18
  • 225/40/18

Remember that profile is a percentage of the width, not measurement in mm.

So a 225 40 18 actually has an almost identical rolling radius as a 255 35 18

Exactly... But it looks as though no-one is using that combo (unless that's a typo in Scotty_d's post). Hence the question. smile

I use that combo.

Camel, You use the TVR standard set up. The standard front is 225/35/18, but I use R888 and the fronts are only available in 225/40. I remember when I looked at it, that the radius was only about 1 mm different from the standard 255/35 rear. So I would say these are better than the standard front 225/35 rubber bands!

Scotty, You sure you use 40 profile rears? - That's a pretty tall sidewall.

Ahhh OK, so what I'm running is the 'Standard'.

The 40 profile on the front makes sense but the 245/35 on the rear sounded interesting too.
