Having been to LM many times in my TVR my insurer and other breakdown companies will not cover vehicles over 17 years which presents a new problem organising attendance along with a friends Elise mk 1 also joining the trip now 17 years old.

Question is who are you using for single trips to cover potential breakdown in Europe/France at a reasonable cost?

Vehicles a t this age seem to be stuck in no mans land <20 years on classics and >17 years none classics!

Got mine through the AA.

Think you have to be a member. Cost was about £80 - £100 for the week

RAC will probably do the same

I am going with AA £144 RAC want want £250 EXCESS I am a member as well. If I claim should the worse happen, and the car needs coming back on a transporter.

I looked around, so it covers the worse problem e.g. car and myself back to U/K.
It also covers parts and labour should it break down in France.

I have free cover with my classic insurance but I believe you can purchase the European breakdown cover on its own, try looking for "Flux Rescue".

free european breakdown with my mx5 insurance (20 years old) - through lancaster.

i'd suggest the Elise owner looks to the owners club or similar.

The ADAC will cover a vehicle of any age for about £90
I took cover our with them 2 years ago on my 1989 mk1 MX5, with no problems (although i didn't need them any way!)
(have a search on here for details)

ADAC - check the website. You'll have to ring if you don't have a German bank account (can't do it online otherwise) but they have English speaking department (if you don't speak German). Pretty easy really. I struggled with my 1996 vehicle when it got to 16 years old but this sorted it all out - €89 I think, covers you for the whole year in UK and Europe.

ADAC are no longer taking new memberships from the UK. Apparently the AA have insisted as people were joining ADAC to get AA cover cheaper. ADAC had to agree or they lost the UK cover for their German members. There is a way around it if you look hard enough, but they will no longer join you up on the phone.
